I'm not much of a Pokémon person, but my son is & trying to buy him cards at retail prices has been nigh on impossible the last couple of years, and I refuse to pay scalpers for anything. So it warms the cockles of my heart to see so many of them having a full meltdown about the recent set. Enjoy!!

next-generation film scanner idea: use optical coherence tomography to scan the volumetric depth of a film and get the location and shape of all grains, dust, scratches etc. filter out everything that's not grain, then use raytracing to simulate film as printed by diffusion or condenser enlarger

thinking about the one time i presented a project in photo-sculpture class that was 7 photos that shared a sort of ominous vibe, plus a minor key orchestral drone cranked up so oppressively loud that one classmate said (as a compliment) that it made them feel like they were gonna have a heart attack
Story about not art: I know a lot of people are on the "games not art" weirdo train, but I met a guy once who claimed games can't be art because level design is inherently manipulative. The emotional reactions couldn't be "authentic" because you're led to them.

In 2004 I saw Yudkowsky give a talk in which he said that when we upload our brains into the cloud and enter machine heaven, we will be able to taste the tastiest possible potato chip. That was his positive vision of the Singularity.
