There's an irony here that Trump is essentially speed-running the problem English monarchs faced in the 1600s: he wants to run an autocratic regime, so he is consulting Congress as little as possibly and trying to rely on sources of Ship Money but that greatly restricts his ability to act and spend.
If as WSJ says munitions production speed-ups were hampered by Congressional gridlock, well, Presidents have the option of setting priorities and making deals. GWB didn't push as strong a domestic agenda as he'd have liked during Iraq, and Nixon gave Dems huge wins while focussing on foreign policy

Sigh. Another ultra-simplistic reading of the Melian Dialogue which treats it in isolation rather than considering its place in the larger narrative and what the reader would have known about what happens next.

one of the reasons they're so mad at "no kings" is that they thought they were going to get a different kind of protest. they *want* the black bloc to be out there fighting with the cops. those are the images they've been trying to generate from "go." instead--

Extra-amusing, of course, is that if these agents weren't buried in all of the tacti-cool useless nonsense, body-armored like they were headed to Ukraine and not O'Hare, they might have been able to run more than thirty feet before getting winded.

This sort of thing is scary - masked agents charging after a delivery guy, seemingly because he was the wrong color, saying something they didn't like - but in that horror, I find it funny that he outraces them while obeying traffic rules - gets into the bike lane, makes a legal right, etc.
