Music has always had the power to connect and inspire us. At the opening of the Obama Presidential Center, Eddie Vedder and the young people from Guitars Over Guns wrote and performed a profoundly moving song, ‘Better Believe,’ that spoke to each of them and all of us.

Today marks 63 years since the March on Washington, when hundreds of thousands of people gathered to demand justice, freedom, and equality.

Let's honor the civil rights leaders who led that historic march by continuing the fight they started.

As we begin today’s March on Washington, I’d like to commemorate our predecessors who, 63 years ago, marched for justice, freedom, and equality.

Randolph. Dr. King, Jr. Rustin. Bates. Lewis. Every leader, activist, and organizer past and present.

Today, we continue to march.

This summer, more than 50 young men from Chicago Public Schools attended the MBK-Obama Leadership Academy to get ready for high school.

They earned credits toward graduation, developed important life skills, and built connections. We’re proud of their hard work, and can’t wait to see what they do.

Jenifer Lewis said it best: 35.9 million people sat out 2024, and we don’t let that shit happen again. Not this time. Not with 90 days on the clock and everything on the line.

Speak out, knock louder, make it impossible to ignore. It’s on all of us to flip it all blue.

The arguments we’re having today aren’t new. In fact, we were having many of the same ones more than 150 years ago during Reconstruction.

I recently sat down with Malcolm Gladwell to reflect on this pivotal time in our nation’s history, and the work that remains. Check out our conversation:

In Galveston and across our nation, Juneteenth celebrates freedom for the enslaved. However, there has been no reconciliation for more than 240 years of enslavement, and there can be no reconciliation without reparations. Justice demands reparations.
