Half the Sampling rate is the so called "Nyquist Frequency" if you want to read more about it.
I'm not a musician, so I don't have practcal experience in that.
But based in what I learned about Digital Signal Processing, it shouldn't. The only thing is that you need to expect a max. usable Frequency that is about 10-20% lower due to Anti-Aliasing filters, so 14kHz instead of 16kHz

You could try to ask for a lower sampling rate. At 48kHz, the theoretical maximal audio frequency is 24kHz. So if you request e.g. 32kHz sampling rate, the maximal physically possible frequency is 16kHz.
