4 best performances in horror movies this century
Unpopular opinion:
Annabelle is the best film in the Conjuring universe.
Annabelle: Creation is the scariest film in that universe.
Annabelle Comes Home (which isn't as good as the first two) is my guilty pleasure favorite of them all.

Finally watched Heretic.
Really, really liked it. Worried it would be a dumb anti-religion slasher and turned out to be more thoughtful than that. Wouldn't call it balanced but not outright prejudiced either. Didn't love the third act but still not bad. Great performances.
Highly recommend.

Finally finished The Creep Tapes season one.
Pretty good. The final two episodes were the quality I was hoping the whole season would be. Each episode built up a thematic purpose leading up to those last two.
Aside from the third, I enjoyed them all. Would recommend. 👍🐺

Put this one off awhile but finally watched Skinamarink.
Halfway through the movie I was still thinking I could figure it out before I gave up and that's when I started really enjoying it.
I get why some hate this. I thought it was good to great or maybe even excellent.
Definitely an experience.

Watched Steven Soderbergh's Presence and it was everything I hoped it would be: thoughtful, unique and deliberately entertaining.
No jump scares, no cheap tricks. Anyone who liked A Ghost Story would appreciate this.

Finally watched Nosferatu.
I feel like Robert Eggers utilized all the strengths from his first three films and made his most entertaining film: the scariness of The VVitch, the intimacy of The Lighthouse and the scope of The Northman.
It was very, very good.

Finally got around to watching Abigail. Got spoiled for me so I wasn't in a rush to see it, but it was so much fun. The first 2/3 of the movie are great. Not a fan of the last act but it wasn't bad. It's about half & half between the horror/suspense and humor. Would definitely recommend 👍

Rewatched a movie I hadn't seen in some years. Zero Effect staring Bill Pullman as a reclusive, brilliant detective with issues (this film predates Monk and House and all the other copycats) and Ben Stiller as his assistant.
It's funny, highly clever and surprisingly touching. A+ flick

I re-watched HBO's Carnivale for the first time in maybe 20 years. It still holds up. I remember liking it but that it was a little slow in doling out its story. Actually didn't mind that this time. It has some wow scenes that later shows like Breaking Bad, LOST and Game of Thrones would have.

Got lost in thought for a minute stargazing in my backyard when my dog (who I forgot was outside with me) starts charging towards me in the darkness. Scared the shit out of me. Good times 👍

There are currently only 22 films streaming on Netflix made before 1980 and not a single one made before 1960, with the oldest film on the platform currently being PSYCHO. I know I’m a broken record but: buy physical media, support your local library, etc etc
