But it seems to me that one remedy would be to declare the entire AI industry to be open-source and public. They didn’t own any of the material so put all their product into the public domain. And whatever products and profits come out go towards the public good.

Nor is the UK unique in having governments that don’t put their nation first

Empirically, the last few decades of UK politics have shown that governments will not prioritise the needs of the nation — this isn’t a retreat, it’s a recognition

I understand that they have a big money cannon and you are afraid of it but the best way to neutralize it at this point is not to play nice but to make them afraid instead

they are afraid of pissing off Republicans but not of pissing off Democrats, and that is not sustainable

this isn't "these guys are annoyed at regulation and if we tone it down they'll go back to being on our side" this is "elon is now the single biggest GOP donor and everyone else has had their brains cooked by group chats and have gone full fash"
