When we talk about places contracting with ICE's notorious 287g contract, it's usually county sheriffs or even state-level agencies.

But some cities are so zealous they contract with ICE directly.

In Arizona, there's only one such city: Mesa.

That's now an issue in the July elections:
Eyeing Upcoming Elections, Arizona Activists Want Their City Officials to Stand Up to ICE - Bolts
Mesa’s longtime partnership with ICE has emerged as a major fault line in the July elections, as organizers work to limit local collaboration with federal immigration authorities.

I talked with Rogelio Bolufé, organizer of the Union of People Kidnapped by ICE. The US government deported him to Ecuador earlier this month, even though he's from Cuba, and left him there with nothing.

Hayes: Are there texts, photos, floating around that will hurt the campaign in October? Are you worried about that?
Platner: I'm not worried about it. There may be things out there but they're from before I was public figure and got into politics. My journey is one of transformation.

2. It was created using massive amounts of work stolen from actual people including me
3. The environmental costs are astronomical

I love how this poem moves from funny to serious

I've seen this. The bar in Belfast International Airport. We heard the alarm, could smell the smoke & sat on & finished our pints.

I have witnessed the second half of the poem too.

It's time to pour our pints on the fire

Their own stated goals, are give us our democracy back. Give us back the country we know. The country they knew didn't work for me or my people. Their whole movement is founded in the reified ideals of the American state, which are lies to mask its atrocities. They don't want to challenge that.
I'm being asked to ally with people who hate me with no intention of changing. That would be white folks. For their benefit, so they can have a country they can believe in back, where my oppression is the norm.

Human rights are for all humans, even the ones you hate.
