When I see public meetings of residents screaming about privacy invasions, yeah, that makes sense with the flock cameras but that is totally different than the automated enforcement. ugh. Talk about undermining a good, and much needed system.

Fun fact: CTDOT has facilitated TSP on municipal owned roads like in New Haven…but they haven’t done it on a state road which they control…

New connection could break down barriers to CT river. ‘A whole new vibe’ that’s welcoming and creative.
A long, percolating plan to create a more walkable, inviting way to reach the river is taking a major step forward.

I use those strong words because I cannot begin to fathom how this is an effective use of the scarce Northeast ATC resources. And I don’t want to hear “but connections!” because you can get from BWI to Philly in 90 minutes on Amtrak.

This is why other countries mock us. We should be making Amtrak the only logical/reasonable option along the NEC. Airspace is already congested and the environment doesn’t need it.

Fun fact: NJ Transit NEC locals are slower than Metro-North New Haven Line locals (average speed of 33mph vs 31mph). A NJ Transit train running local from Jersey Ave to Penn Station 1h07m to do the 35.1 miles making 11 stops. The Stamford local runs over 37.5 miles, makes 15 stops and takes 1h08m.

If we are gonna spend billions on highways thru Hartford can we at least leverage the HOV lanes and do something better with them for transit. We can look at LA or the Twin Cities for examples.

I’m rooting for New Haven’s BRT plan because it can be a model for Hartford. The CTfastrak is nice but doesn’t serve/help the whole region the way that bus lanes along Greater Hartford’s major routes would.

Another reason to learn GIS: update OpenStreetMap to show the new bike routes that are in my neighborhood.

If RI can do truck tolls, could CT do the same? Also, while i’m on tolls, how about converting the HOV lanes on I-84/I-91 to HOT lanes with funds generated going to expansion with transit enhancements?

I wish Connecticut had some semblance of a regional government because there needs to be something between towns and the state. Yes, we have the councils of government but most couldn’t name the one they are in or what they do or who is involved…

It’s wild how there used to be international train service through Hartford to Montréal when I was born and now a train trip would require a overnight layover in NYC and take about 16 hours.

There was a reduction in DUIs and fatal collisions in CT this July 4th weekend. I wonder if the free bus service and reduced fare train service helped and if the state should do more to increase transit usage to make our roads safer…

Going to college and living in Baltimore for over a decade has me slightly more prepared for the heat dome over us but dealing with this heat and New England insulation is going to break me soon.

A great video showing how mid-sized metros like Salt Lake City do transit better and while it can improve it is a great example for other places like Hartford could improve, especially if we work our connections to New Haven and Springfield.
