Starting to scout out more of a retirement situation for Fiona with a big field and a real herd, but it's so tough to trust new people. I have friends who have had to move their horses yearly, someone ik just moved her gelding to a facility with rusted out troughs and a tractor in the paddock, ugh

After 4.5 years Fi needed another round of back injections. The lameness specialist vet has seen her a number of times over the years and it was so gratifying to hear him call her "a success story" today 😭 He was super happy with her hind end/overall condition and she flexed sound, too!

My poor Bea had to have 14 teeth pulled due to resorptive lesions last week. She is doing great but tonight at night check I got to tell Fiona that for once she isn't the animal who is actively stressing me out 🥲

Today Fi's bodyworker said she is "very in tune with her own body" which is not a way I ever thought I would hear my horse described 🥹 I'm so happy she can comfortably exist in her own skin and enjoy new sensations without always shutting down or running away

Every year I am so grateful to have a local-ish horse laundry and blanket repair service (that even does pick-up and drop-off). I hate thinking ahead to blanket szn but it's so nice knowing I'll be prepared with clean, rewaterproofed, patched blankets!

That was a hard no lol. I ordered a Thorowgood T8 GP for us which is presently shipping from FL and the fitter will be back next month to look at it. I have heard very mixed things about Thorowgoods but it was affordable and I'm kinda looking forward to the ease of a synthetic saddle
My mom brought me a CWD saddle from a friend (who lost her horse a few years back) to try on Fi. I'm not usually a French saddle fan and at first glance I think the back panels are the wrong shape for Fi's loooong back but I do think it'll fit me and it's so nicely broken in!

Long story short we did not get to try the Thorowgood but otherwise the appt went great! Fitter is confident she can get a good price for my Zaldi and took it away which is a relief. Fi was well behaved, her new tracings show she's gained some good muscle, and we will get saddle recs soon!
Independent saddle fitter is coming Monday morning to take new tracings and bringing a Thorowgood for us to try. I'm excited to say goodbye to the Zaldi and buy what she recommends if that doesn't work!
