it really boils down to being curious

(7/8) honestly you can get a lot of information about things in asmr-y hobby videos that are going slow enough that you can see what theyre doing that i have at least some interest in (odd tinkering on youtube is a FANTASTIC resource for learning about machines and electronics)

(6/8) i learn about animal behavior and anatomy, i look into bone and muscle structures, i read things like how wing shape affects bird flight. i like taking pieces from things i think are interesting and incorporate them into a design.

(5/8) in general i look at pinterest, play video games, watch tons of movies and shows, look at things outside, look at objects that dont usually get much attention, and research everything that im even mildly curious about. (i once spent six hours reading about only swans lmao)

(4/8) if i dont like how i can apply doll anatomy to a robot i move on to other things that have similar joints based on what aesthetic im going for: action figures, posable anime figures, machines that move at a joint, or studying media that has robots like medabots and transformers.

(3/8) clothing design.

a doll has a pretty rigid range of motion and articulation, so in robot characters i like to think about how they can move most like a person, but also how they hold themselves in their canon or how i want to restrict them with ocs.

(2/8) a part of being good at character design and art in general is to learn about and experiment with lots of things that dont directly apply to art. for instance im actually pretty into ball jointed dolls and fashion dolls! i like to apply the knowledge i have about them to robot characters and
