Ta-Nehisi Coates said, ”I‘ve been very, very careful to tell people what I am qualified to talk about and what I’m not qualified to talk about.”

”No one person should be the oracle or be the articulator…be skeptical of people who attempt to appoint themselves as that. I don‘t want that job at all.”

A staggering number of parents have been swept up by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. From late January 2025 through early April 2026, more than 146,000 US citizen children had moms or dads detained.

That’s about 330 a day.
ICE took Mom and Dad. Now the Perez kids are home alone.
Four American siblings left to fend for themselves—and they're not the only ones.

Started my morning with eating a donut and watching Maria Bamford perform at a small theater in HLP.

Life involves so much rejection that I now welcome a kind, warm rejection. Received a warm rejection from a lit magazine and still feel happy about it.

Tell me you're a millennial without tell me you're a millennial.

Last night, at 9 p.m., I was winding down by reading a book about perimenopause on the Libby app. I fell asleep listening to a 3-hour astrology podcast.

Unconsciously, I might be feeling optimistic bc of the political results in NY.

I say this because a dream took place at a Knicks game.

I don’t dream of sports or NY. Can’t remember any other dreams with sports or NY.

I wrote for eight hours to meet today’s due date. I will be talking to some fried pickles and sparkling wine about this. In the comfort of my home.

I’ve been writing for five hours, with a due date looming.

Now, all I want to do is stare at a wall, in silence, for at least twenty minutes, which I will do as little treat.

I’ve earned it.

In my dream life, I almost sent a Elliott Smith covered by Rihanna to Ryan, but then stopped myself. I thought, "He's probably already heard it." I was driving, looking down at my phone, and the album cover was pink.

Dreamt I was washing my hair with a blue pen, on a lawn, outside ABC7 studios. The blue pen created suds. I felt confident my hair would look great, after styling it with an Amika product.

Going to remind everyone now, buy new filters for you air purifiers now, get more masks, buy an air purifier if you don’t have one, think about getting a humidifier, and refill your rescue inhalers. This year’s fire season is shaping up to be a bad one. I hope I’m wrong, but prepare now if you can.

Months ago, I was invited to write about my experience of taking a trauma-informed writing workshop for survivors of gender-based violence. This morning, I started to draft it. I’m realizing my process involves months (even years) of “brooding.”

Saw someone wearing a cozy moss green sweater, on the back in cursive ivory lettering read, "Mentally I'm at the spa." If I bought a sweater, maybe it would be like a spell, when I wore it. Mentally, no matter where, I would be at the spa.

Starting off the long weekend by drinking a delicious and strong cup of coffee and submitting a story to lit mags. It's formally experimental, inspired by Sabrina Orah Mark, and features Roger and Jessica Rabbit. I once read an excerpt at Bread Loaf in the Little Theater. The story now wants a home.

After listening to Kevin Morby's new album, I want to see him live. But, I also want to stay home.
