The winged sheep sculpture on the Crosscliff Trail in Dalby Forest. A large, weathered brown sandstone monolith features two carved recesses. Its such a stupid capitalist/colonialist mindset that we are somehow above the natural order and the earth which sits below our feet. It shouldn't be a constant uphill battle uprooting nature and stamping out every visage of life. We should work with nature in our construction and cities.

This is a gold bulla, an amulet given to Roman boys on eight or nine days after they were born.

It was found in Herculaneum, an affluent #Roman town that was destroyed, and subsequently preserved by an eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 CE.

Bullae would be worn around the neck and their purpose was to protect the wearer from evil spirits and to proclaim them as freeborn citizens. From Getty webpage: In the Greek epic poem the Odyssey, the hero Odysseus devised a clever ruse to escape from the man-eating, one-eyed giant Cyclops. First, Odysseus blinded the monster, then tied himself and his men to the undersides of the sheep in the giant's flock. The blinded Cyclops checked his sheep as he let them out to graze, but he only felt along their backs, so Odysseus and his men were able to escape. This Athenian black-figure column-krater depicts Odysseus bound under the ram, the leader of the flock. The scene is placed between a pair of eyes, which appear sporadically on Athenian vases of the 500s B.C. The escape from the Cyclops was the most popular scene from the Odyssey depicted on Athenian vases. The back of the vase shows either Nike or Iris between scenes of lions attacking bulls. The Greeks produced a very strong wine, which they drank mixed with water. A krater was used as a mixing vessel to blend the wine and water before serving. The type of krater that scholars call a column-krater takes its name from the columnar appearance of the handle supports.

This object is a Pre-Columbian ceramic warrior figure from the Jalisco culture of West Mexico, dating roughly between 300 BC and 250 AD. The sculpture is crafted in the Ameca-Etzatlán style, featuring a burnished surface and traces of polychrome pigment. It depicts a warrior in a protective or defensive stance, wearing a cone-shaped helmet and holding a club across its body. These figures were typically placed in shaft tombs as guardians of the dead in the afterlife.

Wind god, Izapa culture, Soconusco region, Chiapas, 200BCE-200 CE. It personifies the Wind God (a direct antecedent of later wind deities such as the Mayan god Ik' or Ehécatl of central Mexico). The mouth shows the ritual action of blowing the breath of life and the wind that brings the rain clouds.
