Copernicus and the WMO disagreed over the Antarctic ozone hole's August size; Copernicus reported 25 million km², while the WMO said it was as small as the early 1990s.

Today is World Ozone Day. It honours the signing of the Montreal Protocol in 1987, which phased out the use of chemicals harmful to the ozone.
It was the first universally ratified treaty in UN history. As a result of the Protocol, the ozone layer is slowly recovering.
