Protesters in South Africa demonstrated against the government after nine women were murdered in the Johannesburg area since July, fuelling fears of a serial killer and anger over state failure.

The police have since set up a task team to investigate the murders and have urged women in the Kempton Park area to avoid walking or running alone "particularly in isolated areas".
