The European Union and the Philippines announced on Tuesday that a free trade agreement has been reached to boost trade and investment flows. The EU had been trying for months to close this "strategic commitment" to expand trading links in the Indo-Pacific region. After tariff obstacles imposed by Donald Trump, Brussels set out to broaden trade ties with the Southeast Asian region, especially with India. Trade in goods between the EU and the Philippines amounted to €17.6 billion in 2025, while services reached €10.3 billion in 2024. The EU is the Philippines' fourth-largest trading partner, with 8.3% of total goods trade.
