Sánchez repeats the five-day reflection muddle

The prime minister is weighing this weekend what decision to take about a possible early election, after Congress toppled this Friday the two housing decrees. Pedro Sánchez wants data on the table to decide and remains very attentive to the street's reaction. The possibility of shortening the legislature as a consequence of the double parliamentary setback began moving early Friday from within socialist circles, which— in a highly choreographed move— pressed with calls to the polls to try to move Junts from the negative vote announced hours earlier after meeting their leadership. The decision rests solely with Pedro Sánchez, who in 2023 activated the nuclear option against the view of part of his circle, but then did so suddenly and without generating this flood of opinion favorable to an early election. Ministers and socialist leaders tell this daily newspaper that the moment is favorable, showing their total conviction.
