An expert debunks the four most widespread myths about Columbus

Columbus is back in fashion. Or perhaps he never stopped being. It has not been two years since a study promised to reveal the navigator's origin by rising on a thick pillar: his genetic trace. The arrival, however, left few certainties. But in the face of great doubt, careful research like the one published by Esteban Mira Caballos. In "Columbus, the Converso Who Changed the World" (Crítica), the PhD in American History from the University of Seville separates myths from reality by relying on documents forgotten in the archives. The result is a navigator devoted to the Catholic faith who lived under the monarchy even after suffering several clashes with Isabella the Catholic. And, most importantly, Genoese. "I don't think he was, but I am totally sure because we have dozens of objective proofs," he tells ABC1. The first question is obligatory. Trump: "We demand that Christopher Columbus be put back into the heart of Columbus, Ohio. We want it back. I see my Italian lawyer over here. We gonna win the case? The monument! We're building a military complex, uh, it's a arch. A triumphal arch."

The Bobadilla Report documented extensive atrocities, torture, and tyrannical rule by Columbus that led to him being hauled back to Spain in chains, being stripped of his titles, and imprisonment. Of course Trump takes pride in "resurrect[ing]" him.
