I'm very glad that Andy Burnham has been open about Russian interference in the Brexit referendum. Farage's reaction tells us Burnham has hit the nail on the head.

Burnham is lucky to have a LOTO who is going to stick with the 'this is an irrelevance', but worth noting that his decision to stick EU in with other important foreign policy points in this statement doesn't help in making the case

10/10 for commitment to an inclusive dialogue where he's not pre-judging process, but still only 5/10 on trying to set frames for the debate: mostly rational economics, plus a sprinkling of immigration control, but no clear emotional argument

Parliament debating relations with the EU. I'm getting triggered. Not least by the utter absence of anything approaching detail about future plans.

Note too that Burnham is absolutely not moving red lines now, nor taking offered opportunity to totally dunk on Made in Europe

Burnham started his much-needed assault on Brexit yesterday by confirming Russian interference in the vote. Now this:

“In a statement to MPs, Andy Burnham will argue it is time to "face up to the reality that Brexit has done more harm than good" and "the status quo is not good enough for Britain."”
Rejecting closer EU ties would be dereliction of duty, PM to say
Addressing the Commons, Burnham is expected to say that a new deal with the EU could help tackle illegal immigration and boost economic growth.

Not what most of you are interested in, but struck by Burnham's language on Nov summit: only SPS and ETS get language of a 'deal', while rest (YEM, IEM, immigration) is 'progress', which speaks to difficulties of agreeing even this level of cooperation

Having been a subject about which few dared speak, rejoining the EU is now being talked about. Whether that is realistic and could even be done in one Parliamentary / EU term really depends on the UK government being overwhelmingly positive. www.ft.com/content/3aa9...

the UK should join the EU asap - the public was duped in 2016 including by hostile foreign state interference in our democracy that was designed to weaken the UK and Europe. We were better off in so many ways in the EU. Watch today’a debate on UK and EU relations.

Seeing a flurry of articles on what it would take for UK to rejoin the EU. Some of them mention that a Le Pen presidency (which favours looser union) cd make it easier for the UK to rejoin. This is silly & wrong. 1/2

Andy Burnham goes a little further on EU relations by committing to a dialogue on options after the Summit, and to proceed with transparency, not something we have seen before - as I may have mentioned on a few occasions.
