Greenhouse gases reach record highs
1d
The World Meteorological Organization said atmospheric levels of carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide rose to record highs in 2025, extending a warming trend.
Nevertheless, global GHG emissions are still at record high levels. Progress?

The biggest increase was in the USA, followed by international transportation. India, Russia, & the European Union all had slight declines.
Chinese GHG emissions rose, still not peaked.

The EU is the only major region with sustained reductions, the US reductions are slowing. Despite clean energy, still strong growth in China & India.
Russia has higher per capita emissions than the US!

At the capture rate (0.59 MTCO2/y) from new CC/DAC in 2026 where the CO2 isn't used for EOR, it will take 81,000y to build enough CC/DAC to capture the current CO2 emis from fossils & land-use change (47,200 MTCO2/y)
