Spain recorded more than 1,000 heat-related deaths in June, national mortality-monitoring data showed, and authorities warned a new heatwave could drive temperatures higher in coming days.

"Climate Shift Index (CSI) levels of 5 — the highest possible — are forecast across the eastern U.S., meaning human-caused climate change made this extreme heat at least 5x more likely. This signals an exceptional climate-influenced event." 🔥

Cold drinks for a hot summer: they don’t solve climate change, but they are mighty refreshing
Here's a scientific term I wish I didn't understand: heat dome. Europe has been suffering under one, bringing with it two record-breaking heat waves and more than 1300 excess deaths in the past month. And North America will be on the receiving end of one this week. Ontario and the US midwest and east coast are preparing for temperatures to top 100F/37C this weekend.

New research shows heatwave and drought events reduce average European incomes by nearly 3% and that rising temperatures will widen income inequality and push millions more into poverty. Climate change isn't separate from poverty. It is poverty, accelerated. climateanalytics.org/press-releas...

A new Climate Analytics study shows that combined heat-and-drought events already reduce average household incomes by almost 3% across Europe, with much larger losses in the hardest-hit regions.

Last week’s deadly heatwave in Europe and this week in the US highlight that worsening summer heat is becoming a shared global experience. While heatwaves made worse due to climate change affect us all, heat’s dangers are felt unequally — and outdoor workers are particularly vulnerable.

Human-caused climate change is increasing the risk of hotter temperatures, including these dangerous heat waves. Watch the entire distribution shift to the right.

I'm afraid these headlines about record heat are only going to become more common. 🌡️
