Oil drop cools US inflation

U.S. consumer inflation fell to 3.5% in June, easing expectations for Federal Reserve rate increases after a drop in oil prices helped cool overall inflation.

A 20% charge would work out to about $32 million for a fully-loaded very large crude carrier at current oil prices. That’s far higher than the tolls that have been charged by Iran, which have previously been described as reaching $2 million

The Strait of Hormuz isn't simply open or closed. It's been more like my dog going in and out of the house all day.⁣
⁣
The real risk is uncertainty: if shippers lose confidence that the route will stay open, oil prices could jump—even before anything actually happens.⁣

I've been asked what happens to US gas (petrol) prices IF, and it is a big if, international oil prices remain at current levels or move higher.
The answer: We'll see regular retail gasoline rise back above $4.00 a gallon, and diesel above $5.00, both before the end of this month.

#Russia higher oil prices earlier in the spring now showing up in the federal budget.

Revenue y/y
4/26 +5.8%
5/26 +24.3%
6/26 +34.6%

But expenditures also rising rapidly. Deficit 1-6/2026 RUB5.7tn, or 2.5% of GDP. Lower oil prices lead to lower oil&gas tax revenue going forward.

Seems like Trump just made a pitch for the Iranian toll system. :)

Because the Iranians were going to charge $1mn per ship, which would amount to 1-2% of the value of the cargo of an oil tanker.

But Trump is going to charge 20%! :)

Brent above $85. European gas back over €50/MWh as Hormuz escalates again.

A reminder: A fifth of global oil and LNG passes through that strait. Every heat pump, EV and electrified factory shrinks this exposure. Electrons made at home cannot be blockaded in a shipping lane.
