Honestly, if you’re in the market for a new camera today, it's probably a pretty stressful situation. There are so many great cameras by so many great companies to choose from. And, on top of the cameras themselves, the lenses available are pretty robust too. However, if you're looking for a good package deal, finding the right kit can be a great option. To help with that, Canon has announced new Cinema EOS Lens and Videographer kits for the EOS C50 and EOS C80 cameras. Let’s check out these new options and how they could streamline your production setups. * * * ### New Canon Camera Kits The goal of these kits, you could say, is to better unlock the cinematic and efficient capabilities of two of Canon’s more popular cameras on the market. The Canon EOS C50 and the EOS C80 are both highly capable full-frame cinema cameras that can pack a punch for indie filmmakers and corporate videographers alike. If you’re looking to get the most out of your investment in either, Canon is encouraging potential owners to pair these cameras with RF optics and build a production package optimized for your shoots. To do this, Canon has rolled out two new kits: a Cinema EOS Lens Kit and an EOS C50 Videographer Kit. ### Check Them Out Here’s the full breakdown for each new kit option: * Cinema EOS Lens Kits: Each kit pairs either the EOS C50 or EOS C80 camera with versatile RF zoom lenses. The EOS C50 is Canon’s smallest and lightest cinema camera to date, featuring a 7K full-frame CMOS sensor ideal for handheld and verité shooting, while the EOS C80 features a 6K full-frame, back-illuminated stacked CMOS sensor with triple-base ISO. The lightweight RF 20-50mm lens covers ultra-wide to standard ranges with smooth power zoom control to elevate your video, while the RF 24-105mm F4 provides a versatile focal range and constant aperture for diverse shooting needs. * EOS C50 Videographer Kit: Builds on the ultra-compact EOS C50 camera by adding essential production accessories, including an Azden shotgun microphone, Azden monitoring headphones, a Hoya variable ND filter, and a two-year Canon CarePAK PRO coverage plan for Canon cameras and lenses, as well as Canon’s lightweight RF 20-50mm lens, which covers ultra-wide to standard ranges with smooth power zoom control to elevate your video. ### Price and Availability The company has shared that these new Cinema EOS Lens Kits and EOS C50 Videographer Kit are set to be available later this month with the following price levels: * Cinema EOS Lens Kits: * EOS C50 + RF20-50mm F4 L IS USM PZ: $5,098.00 * EOS C80 + RF20-50mm F4 L IS USM PZ: $7,048.00 * EOS C50 + RF24-105mm F4 L IS USM: $5,098.00 * EOS C50 Videographer Kit: * EOS C50 + RF20-50mm F4 L IS USM PZ + Azden SGM-250LX-C Shotgun Mic + Azden MH-787-C Headphones + Hoya Variable Density II 67mm ND Filter + 2-Year CarePAK PRO: $5,999.99 For more info on the kits and their availability, head to the company’s website here.

As Canon often does, the company is rolling out another batch of firmware updates not just for one camera, but for several all at once. This latest firmware rollout adds new recording specs, features, and improvements for the EOS C400, EOS C80, and EOS C50. These popular Canon EOS Cinema cameras should benefit from improved slow-motion recording features, plus a new ability to change sensor modes via assignable buttons. There are other helpful updates and improvements too, so let’s check it all out. * * * ### Latest Canon Firmware Updates While Canon obviously has a huge range of cameras, lenses, and other gear to constantly keep up to date, it’s nice to see them shine some R&D light onto their cinema lineup with this new batch of firmware updates. The EOS C400, EOS C80, EOS C50, and even the EOS R5 C are set to get improvements, including advanced multi-camera matching, audio and autofocus in slow & Fast motion recording modes, and support for a 1/8000 shutter speed and external flash. Another notable update is that the company has announced a new, free Camera Control sensor that offers all-in-one remote camera control for PTZ cameras. ### Slow Motion and Assignable Sensor Mode Button For cinematographers, high-frame-rate Slow & Fast (S&F) recording has often required DPs to sacrifice key features like live audio monitoring and automated subject tracking. This update should reduce that burden by enabling autofocus at additional frame rates in S&F mode (72, 75, 90, and 96 fps), as well as external audio transmission via SDI and HDMI. The Canon EOS C400, EOS C80, and EOS C50 cameras will also now be able to change sensor modes via assignable buttons, which should help them switch angles more quickly without changing lenses or accessing the camera menu. ### Price and Availability All of these updates are currently scheduled to be available by December 2026, and the new Camera Control Center should be out next year. For more info on these firmware updates and where and how to install them, head to the company’s website here.
