We've come to the "too big to fail (expel)" part of the Man City punishment debate cycle. Can't help but think ADUG/CFG believed themselves immune from serious potential sanctions exactly b/c 1) unlimited money buys unlimited clemency 2) the rest of the league's commercial prospects are tied to them

I think City's status in the PL/EFL being contingent on having owners who don't have a track record of fraud is a reasonable punishment.

If that's the case, and CFG loses Manchester, I'm curious what the group does with the rest of the portfolio/future clubs.

Melbourne City really wishing they didn’t have a tab on the CFG spreadsheet right now.

I would think current players should be allowed to leave without any penalty.
I also think any former players should be able to sue CFG as their behaviour has damaged the reputations of these players.
Remember, the commission found there were illegal payments made to players. How common was that?

The other thing to think about here: Even as the EPL has soared in revenue & popularity, the only EPL team that could consistently beat Madrid, Barca, Bayern & PSG to the absolute top talent was CFG's City. Everyone else was a feeder club.

With CFG hamstrung, now what?

Additional context on potential impacts to NYCFC from Man City.

Here is an ownership chart I've obtained, tracing NYCFC and Etihad Park all the way back to the top.

The entity in pink, CFG (Midco) Limited, is where Manchester City (and other CFG clubs and operations) are held.

Important to remember Pep is still a paid employee of CFG. Company man.

I think CFG believes they went through the correct channels. FFP rules became more complicated every year which is half the reason the move to SCR happened. Became too convoluted even for the usual suspects.

I hear you and will always back the club. Personally I don't care what they say until we see something. Spent the last 7 years blindly fighting against the hate. CFG will need to give me something to believe in.

The manager and players on the pitch have nothing to do with that
City insist the accusations are false. And based on what they're claiming as evidence I'm inclined to believe them.

It’s a very good point. Although potentially CFG/Etihad might have got their act together once they knew they’d been caught.

Evidently the deal was still not at “fair market value” though

Perhaps the most offensive thing in this entire Man City scandal is that CFG could have been cooking the books and breaking the roster rules for NYCFC this whole time and didn’t care enough to do so.

Even if not, if Man City are tossed out of the EPL/EFL/FA, could CFG refocus on NYCFC, or perhaps be a landing spot for players?

Why would they sell though? CFG has unlimited money and needs places to wash it.

I hope CFG sells, and the buyer changes the team to the New York Goddamned Cosmos

1. This is all super funny

2. I hope it ends with CFG selling NYCFC to someone local who gives a shit

You mean the Prem watched CFG’s business model grow into the most successful and progressive multi-club system for 9 years thinking ‘we must find a way of stopping then’? It’s all on Wiki, the way CFG profited from inter club transfers. The Prem is finished.

Maybe you can switch to South Melbourne? They look like the next likely addition to the A-League now. CFG can sell their A-League license to SMFC.
