The International Vegan Climate ETF (VEGX) opens for trading on Cboe BZX Exchange today, giving Beyond Investing a second listed fund seven years after it brought vegan screening rules to the US market. VEGX tracks the Beyond Investing International Vegan Climate Index, which covers developed markets excluding the United States and Australia. #### How the index is built Construction starts with the Solactive GBS Developed Markets Large & Mid Cap Index, roughly 1,400 companies, before US and Australian listings are stripped out. What remains spans 22 markets including Japan, Canada, the UK, France, Germany, Switzerland, Sweden, Hong Kong, Israel and Singapore. Companies are then excluded where more than about 2% of revenue comes from animal testing, animal-derived products and farming, animals in sport and entertainment, genetically engineered animals, fossil fuel extraction, refining or energy production, tobacco, armaments, or human rights abuses. Financial and business service firms that depend disproportionately on excluded companies are cut as well. Surviving constituents are market capitalization weighted with a 5% ceiling per company, applied at semi-annual reconstitutions in June and December. © Beyond Investing The summary prospectus puts the index at 309 companies, weighted toward industrials, communications services, financials and information technology. Because the fund uses representative sampling rather than full replication, its portfolio is smaller: Beyond Investing says VEGX launches with 130 holdings, among them ASML, SAP, Sony, Nintendo, Shopify, Infineon, Ericsson, Hitachi, Nokia and Vestas. Total annual operating expenses run to 0.75%, above the 0.60% charged on the US fund. Penserra Capital Management acts as sub-adviser, with Dustin Lewellyn, Ernesto Tong and Christine Johanson managing the portfolio. #### Seven years of US performance behind the launch VEGN listed in September 2019 as the first ETF built on vegan exclusion criteria, and we’ve tracked its growth from $25M in assets after one year to $65M and outperformance against the S&P 500 by its second anniversary. ETF Express reported in August that assets had reached $180M and that the fund had delivered an annualized 19.87% against 16.28% for the S&P 500 on NAV to 30 June 2026, with technology overweights driving much of the gap. A European product is next. Smith said the firm has fielded enough inquiries to justify a UCITS version, though organic growth means the second fund needs to generate cash flow before a third is filed. For now, the pitch to existing shareholders is arithmetic rather than thematic: the two funds are, in her words, “highly complementary to each other, with no risk of portfolio replication,” because the international index screens out US stocks entirely.
