Ordered my cheesesteak from a self-serve kiosk which had the gall to ask me how the service was

At hematology and cancer center this morning there was a man trying to get folks to sign in at an A.I. kiosk and there were only 2 people working registration at the desk.
Jobs will be lost to A.I. that is far from being as perfect as a human being trained to care for human beings.

4. Skip the queue and just walk through finding the 2 km path to the Henge (no problem with the walk: the whole area is important so no more roads). Noting of course that the queue for the buses for those who can’t /won’t walk is longer than that for the kiosk…..

3. Get to the queue for the kiosk/acceuil and find there is no way that members can flash their FREE ENTRY card to a receptive host. Look down the barrel of a good half hour wait to explain that to a min wage person.

For Stonehenge:
1. put up with the hideous traffic caused by the A road going from dual into single carriage at *exactly* the wrong place.
2. Park a long way from the kiosk/acceuil then walk to it to find out as a member you need to validate your parking but can’t remember your number plate…

2010 or so when I flew home for Thanksgiving, the AirTran terminal was a yellowed drop ceiling you could reach up and touch. They had a BK, Dunking, and Hudson News kiosk and that was it.

Delta section was a little nicer, but not much. The new Delta stuff is very well-done. And RIP Bozo for AirTran

Saw a cute little kiosk store for printing art onto shirts but then I saw they were using AI to advertise, as well as having AI designs on the shirts they had on display 🫩

An old Stalin era joke:
Every day an old man buys a newspaper from a kiosk, glances at the front page & throws it in the trash.
One day the newspaper seller asks him: Why do you do that Comrade, but the paper, glance at it & throw it away?"
The old man says: "I'm looking for an obituary."

Sociology: The kiosk at the main street is under new management, there are 2 girls and 1 dude, working shifts 24/7. I asked both girls their names, I remember the cute one's, the other I forgot. But: The cute one has forgotten my name also

Approximately 200 Touchpoint kiosks were operating by spring 1997.

All were decommissioned after an 18-month trial, but their lessons informed BT’s later Multiphone terminals.

Do you remember seeing or using a BT Touchpoint kiosk?

💾 Forgotten Technology

BT Touchpoint brought colour touchscreens, printers and telephone links into indoor public spaces around London.

People could browse guides and news, print maps, vouchers or coupons, and use Freefone links to businesses.

“The village does not need to prove that everyone uses the kiosk every day. It needs to prove that when the network thins out, when weather intervenes, when something goes wrong, the box still belongs to the category of things people may need.” – Nicholas Cooke
