Damn it. Super saturated soil and wind and a top heavy cactus. Adios sweet saguaro. 😢🌵
This happened off the main drag in our neighborhood by the community pool area. It's fortunate it did not fall onto a person or a car. Unfortunately replanted segments will not regenerate.
A very large green saguaro cactus lies on ground that is damp and muddy. Mud can be seen at the base. It was probably 20+ ft tall and 80 years old. Super-saturated soil cannot support them if the wind catches them right. They are extremely heavy cactus.😢🌵

It was sort of peeing all night and this morning with some occasional short bursts of rain. But now we're getting a gale! Hoping a super saturated ground doesn't topple some of the saguaros. That can be a concern. 😔

Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #BCD; any bird whose name begins with one of those letters. Curve-billed thrashers are always fun to see – they're one of the more gregarious wild birds I've encountered and very patient while being photographed. This one was on a roofline in western #Arizona. #Birds
A bird that's sized a bit bigger than an American robin is standing in three-quarter profile at the edge of a roof. It has varying shades of gray feathers, an orange-yellow eye, and a gently curved beak. The Arizona sky beyond is clear and blue. Curve-billed thrashers (Toxostoma curvirostre) have body lengths of 10.6-11.0 inches (27-28 cm), weigh 2.1-3.3 ounces (60.8-93.6 g), and have wingspans of 13.4-13.6 inches (34-34.5 cm).
