I posted my favorite mushroom photo I’ve ever taken (and I’ve taken thousands!) when I first joined, but I didn’t know about #fungifriends yet, so I’m reposting it. Waxcap. #naturephotography #forestfloor

My lovely wife discovered the cutest mushroom family living in a tree cave. So I discovered her discovering it.

Three large Wax Cap mushrooms, one large, two small. They have bright, almost glowing scarlet caps and orange stems. They are growing close together, touching, from ground covered in old, dead, dark-colored leaves. They’ve pushed the leaves up a bit

The very first Lichenomphalia umbellifera lichens I found. I think you can see why I lost my mind over them and am still obsessed with them. Distance shot below ⬇️

Stereum mushroom sharing a dance with its hair moss friend.
#fungifriends #iseemoss
An orange stereum mushroom that has been curled up more or less into the shape of an ice cream cone, except the front is still a bit open. Through that front, a tuft of moss has grown into the mushroom, and it looks like the moss is embraced by it.

Today, proof that you don’t need to find a fancy fungus to take interesting photos. All photos today will be bonnets, the most common mushroom you’ll find in these parts. This is one of six. #fungifriends #fungi #naturephotography #mycology #fungisky #forestfloor

Lichenomphalia umbellifera, my obsession with this lichen continues! They are all so unique. Reminder: lichens are a symbiotic combination of fungi and algae. Most take the form of their algae component but this one reflects its mushroom side.

Fairy parachutes/Marasmiellus candidus, when they open all the way up they look really cool. I had the perfect lighting that day too.

Before I get back to my regularly scheduled programming of book talks, here is a splash of color to brighten your feed.

The Amethyst Deceiver, laccaria amethystina.

A cluster of purple mushrooms, laccaria amethystina. The photo is taken from ground level, showing the gills of two mushrooms with decaying leaves and moss on the ground.

Deceivers, possibly Laccaria amethysteo-occidentalis? Since a lot of deceivers have purple tones all over or underneath it’s hard to ID them unless you really know your stuff, and I am no expert. Going to post a few other purple deceivers to show you

Mycenaceae, I love finding fungi off the ground. It means I don’t have to get dirty or be mistaken for a dead body lying on the ground (this has happened many times) and I can get a nice clean view of them.
