McSweeney is exercised by the fact that the civil service has 7,000 communications officers, 4,500 of whom work for arm's-length bodies and quangos and frequently attack what the government is trying to do. Like Dominic Cummings, he is enthused by the possibilities of technology to speed change, such as AI in the NHS or gamers being hired by the Ministry of Defence to fly drones. He is now experimenting with 'synthetic voters' – essentially fake focus groups of AI voters who can tell ministers more quickly and cheaply what the public thinks of policies. In the last week he has been reading The Technological Republic by Alexander Karp, co-founder of the tech firm Palantir, which argues that the West’s technical dominance over the past century has been down to collaboration between governments and tech firms.

Participants were asked to record the time taken for each task with M365 Copilot compared to colleagues not involved in the trial. The assessment report adds: "Observed task sessions showed that M365 Copilot users produced summaries of reports and wrote emails faster and to a higher quality and accuracy than non-users. Time savings observed for writing emails were extremely small. "However, M365 Copilot users completed Excel data analysis more slowly and to a worse quality and accuracy than non-users, conflicting time savings reported in the diary study for data analysis. "PowerPoint slides [were] over 7 minutes faster on average, but to a worse quality and accuracy than non-users." This means corrective action was required.

Olszewska arrived in the UK last September on a six-month visitor visa and shortly afterwards the application, containing all the correct information, was made for her to live permanently in Britain with her son and his wife. Until a few days ago the family had heard nothing from the Home Office although the application had been lodged in good time before the six-month visa expired. But on 25 March the Home Office finally responded, informing the family: "Unfortunately your application is not valid and we are unable to accept it." The rejection letter went on to say: "The required application process for someone applying as a family member of a relevant naturalised British citizen is to use the appropriate paper form. Your application was made online. There is no right of appeal in respect of an invalid application."

The National Chargepoint Registry (NCR), which serves as the UK's open database for public electric vehicle charge point information, will be retired on 28 November 2024. As part of this transition, no new data will be accepted into the NCR after 11 November 2024. The NCR has been in place since 2011 as a source of open data on EV charge points for developers, local authorities and industry leaders. It delivers accessible information on the locations, connector types and operational hours of charge points across the UK, enabling mobility providers, app developers, and urban planners to enhance EV adoption and improve infrastructure development.
