I just got an email from someone who said they enjoyed reading my book so much that they nominated it for an award.

Instead of the scam/spam that it is, I am choosing to see this as the Ghost of Readers Future because my books aren't published yet...

#WIPSnips 2. "Dent"

A snippet from one of my favourite chapters in EF, as Ashrah officially starts learning to wield the Mystic Arts 🥰 (One I won't share much here to keep the surprises for the book!)

#ChroniclesOfTheRealms #SayaAshrah #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #QueerWriters
Ashrah acquiesced; the lioness had proved itself a valiant warrior, and for now, that was all that mattered to her. Should it wish to join her again, she would welcome it. Another reason had brought her to these lands, however. “How may I wield the Mystic Arts to combat Ulorzz?” Nightwolf stood and stretched. “Walk with me. And as you do, feel the energy around you. Do not try to control it. Allow yourself to simply feel it.” They crossed the undulating field in silence except for that tweeting chant, the light-and-darkness anomaly ever-present in the corner of Ashrah’s eyes. She ignored it, concentrating instead on the grass brushing her feet and the breeze grazing her skin, and as she passed beside a tree, she placed her hand on it. The trunk was firm but smooth, and when she removed her hand, she discovered a dent in its shape that faded as quickly.

#WIPSnips 1. “Injury”

Continuing from that snippet with the hellhounds, this might well be one of Ashrah’s Fatalities if the CotR game were ever made! Yes, CW for violence and gore 😅

#ChroniclesOfTheRealms #SayaAshrah #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #QueerWriters
Once the sword passed by her, Ashrah sprang forward, darting Datusha across the soldier’s torso and following with a— The earth shook; she lost her balance and her sword, and then the soldier slammed into her, pressing the hilt of the greatsword against her neck. Ashrah strained against the weight crushing the bones along her throat, the taste of alarun biting her tongue. Unable to aim, she rammed her fist against the general direction of the gash she had opened in the mortal’s stomach. The soldier squealed, arms going weak. Ashrah punched the injury again with more force and, wriggling her arm free, threw a fist at her enemy’s throat, causing her to drop the heavy weapon as she backed away, struggling for breath. Ignoring the ache in her neck, Ashrah retrieved Datusha, plunged it into the warrior’s gaping mouth, and dragged the blade out through bones and sinew and flesh. Slivers of teeth and bones and the sliced tongue jumped out of the hanging mandible, the two halves writhing on the floor alongside a chunk of her still-beating heart.

Grumpy/sunshine when you start melting the grumpy's heart :3

#ChroniclesOfTheRealms #BattlemageAskaly #XiuyingCotR #Xiuly #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #QueerWriters
Askaly glanced over her shoulder, and she smiled when she spotted a piece of the flower she had tattooed on Xiuying’s shoulder. “We’ll see each other again, petal.” Xiuying’s pale cheeks turned a bright red. “Petal?! How dare you?” Askaly followed Fujin into the portal, grinning from ear to ear. “She likes it,” the goddess said, their voice jingling like a chime dancing with the wind. “I know.” It felt good to tease Xiuying and laugh with the Protector Goddess. Askaly feared it might be long before she relished that warmth again.

#WIPSnips 30. "Guard"

Ashrah doesn't approve of the Monkey Style.

#ChroniclesOfTheRealms #SayaAshrah #NetherTouchedSareena #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #QueerWriters
“I sense doubt in you.” It is just that not all Nether-Touched succumb to the temptations of the Abyss. “Oh, this one has, trust me. I can feel it irradiating in every metallic fibre of my being.” The Nether-Touched wrapped the chains of her sickle around a tree and swung across the clearing, kicking a marrkal in the face before falling onto her back and rolling away from another’s sting. Rather than retaliate while the demon had its guard open, the Nether-Touched sat on her haunches, knuckles against the ground, and hooted like marrkals themselves did. Losing what wits it had left to outrage, the marrkal flailed claws and tail at the Nether-Touched, who laughed as she dodged one impalement after another. Whether with illusions or with that outlandish way of moving, she never faced them head-on. Cowardice, too, was a sign of corruption.

#WIPSnips 29. "Well"

Lots of "well" in the story, but only one true "Well."

#ChroniclesOfTheRealms #NetherTouchedSareena #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #QueerWriters
She fell, but that didn’t stop her either: ignoring the pain of scraped knees and elbows, she scrambled to her feet, the tentacle squiggling in her grip, and kept running. As the Well of Lamentation came into view, relief gave her another push when A’zeena, Gvorran, and two other Nether-Touched she didn’t know came out of hiding, tools in hand, and though they hesitated upon seeing the pursuing wraiths and ksa’rra, A’zeena urged them forward to form a protective barrier. Unable to slow down, Sareena crashed against the Well, the tentacle flying from her hand and into the water. If she thought the River Isa’anr was dark, the… substance inside the Well was the purest black. The tentacle didn’t sink so much as was swallowed with an audible glub that made her shiver and swear she’d never bathe in those waters again.

From WIP 2 - Wishing You Knew

As someone said the last time I shared this snip, "Someone get Shannon some flowers!" 🪻🌹🌷🌼💐

#WIPSnips #QueerWriters #WritingPrompts #Shaqueline #SapphicWriters #sapphicauthors #WriteSky #Sapphic
Shannon rolled her shoulders and looked down the street for the bus. A flash of colour on the snowy sidewalk caught her eye. A bouquet of lavender roses lay discarded on the ground. She didn’t understand how someone could be so careless with something that took so much thought. As she stared at them, their petals broken and slowly scattering on the wind, she wondered what it would feel like to be the person someone bought flowers for—then immediately felt foolish at the thought. IN YOUR AFTERGLOW is an adult mystery/horror told in second person.
Leo attempts to uncover the truth surrounding the suspicious death of his best friend in his (possibly haunted) small town.

A moodboard consisting of nine pictures. A box cluttered with old letters. The shadow of a figure in a window. A large chain and padlock across a gate. A car on a dirt road at night. The text "I won't bury another friend". A pile of dirt being shoveled. Part of a tombstone. A flashlight illuminating one section of woods. Someone pulling a rolling set of blinds down with their finger to peer at the house across their street, The background of the moodboard is of a foggy suburban street.
