My boys has a muscle tear in his knee and has been on 3 legs for a couple weeks. Today he started walking on all 4 again. I can’t tell you the wave of relief that washed over me seeing even the slightest bit of improvement. Hopefully it’s a sign of things to come.

With Riley’s passing, a seismic shift has developed inside me. My fire painting was the last piece I painted, before he had his stroke, and it’s not difficult to gather it’s tone and intensity. However, I don’t have THAT energy to paint from, anymore… When Riley left, he took with him, nearly every bit of my anger and pain.🥺 — I don’t know how any of this works, as I’ve never experienced this particular kind of loss, but I DO KNOW, that dog was a magical being, and so it should come to no surprise he was performing miracles, until the end. In Riley’s final days, he cranked up all the best parts of myself, to 11. Parts of me I haven’t seen in awhile. Everything we worked on, that we built, the parts of me I realized were most beautiful, SHINED in those final moments. I saw who I was again. I saw the loving heart I was graced with, I saw my humanity, I saw my world, and I was brought to my knees, by the angel I came to know as Riley Bear. 🥺🙏🏻 The collar around my neck, belonged to Riley, and I wear it with pride. I remain in awe, as I reflect on all the incredible things he did, with his extraordinary life, and I look to this collar, whenever I need a reminder of what we built.✊🏻 Because of him, I am still gentle, kind, aware, present, and most importantly, I’m still alive. He protected the best parts of me, and now that I remember what they are, I’ll continue to fight for them. I am not the same man I was a week ago, I’m Matty again. Love you Riley Bear; You continue to teach me such beautiful lessons. 🙏🏻🐶
