How I Do Útiseta
I was inspired by Irene Glasse’s recent post, Útiseta: Wisdom from the Wilds, to write on how I do útiseta. She gives really good points modern practitioner of útiseta can use to reconstruct and revive their own practice. She also identifies a common issue when it comes to esoteric practices modern Heathens are eager to embrace: “Based on the written records of útiseta, we don’t know the specifics of how this was done.” Unfortunately, if you are looking for a blow-by-blow, the written records are going to be scant, and given what we do know of how útiseta was practiced, there is even less archaeological evidence for it than seiðr or Runework.

In leu of @rissy.ca 's upcoming courses, "Útiseta" is a type of Norse trance to speak with those who have passed on, gain knowledge, and connect spiritually with the Gods. It is a key component of Seiðr and Norse Magical practices.

New blog today! This one is all about útiseta (Heathen spiritual information-seeking) - what we know from history, what we can add from late folk practices, and how to build a revived version. Link below. #HeathenSky #PaganSky

I'm going to sleep now.
My goal is to rest and relax as much as possible from now until the full moon, which is on Wednesday.
Wednesday night, I'm conducting my utiseta ("sitting out," basically an extended meditation).

Take for instance the Norse Spiritual Practice of Útiseta or "sitting out" where practitioners go and sit by a stream. In this meditative practice, they allow their energy to be cleansed by the running water. This is a way of dealing with stress, trauma, and spiritual debris.

Part of my animism practice is nature journaling and útiseta. I just sit outside and feel the environment and take notes of what is going on physically and spiritually. The best part are probably the sketches I make train myself to really look.

Top left of thempage: small ink sketch of a slug, handwritten notes saying "relaxed longboy". Center of the lage: watercolour sketch of the same slug but much bigger, the notes read : "A not too relaxed baby slug. Didn't like that I picked it up on a leave and shrunk into a loaf and retracted the eyes."

"Animism is the belief that all things have a sacred soul, spirit, or life force."

Not only is nature our greatest teacher, but we can learn so many lessons just by being outside and observing nature.

Pictured is a beautiful running stream. There are lots of rocks and some foliage on the banks of the stream. This picture illustrates the practice of útiseta, Or sitting out. An Animist Norse Pagan meditative practice of clearing yourself with the water and the streams.

New Releases Coming from Cyclic Law
Three May 15 releases from the French label Cyclic Law. UNDIRHEIMAR – Utisetur I (CD / LP / DL, Cyclic Law, co-released with Zazen Sounds). Utisetur I unfolds as a six-part ritual chant rooted in the ancient meditative practice of Utiseta. Stripping away all instrumentation, Undirheimar constructs the entire album exclusively from layered overtone singing, creating a dense, immersive field of resonance without the use of synths, drones, or external sound sources.

those alive at the time. Many indigenous spiritual practices had persisted for hundreds of years after the region became officially Christian. My favorite is utiseta, which simply meant "sitting out" (at night, alone, communing with nature), which was considered so powerful that it was banned.

Anyway, I'm going to sleep now. Tomorrow's going to be my day that I get chores done around the apartment and do my last supply check for the utiseta.

I hope it doesn't rain and I can go to the cemetery as planned. If not, it'll be postponed to August.

Good night everyone ✌️❤️

Heads up, everyone.

Ahead of my utiseta (which is basically just sitting outside to communicate with the spirits and gods of nature), which is going to be tomorrow night between 7pm to midnight or so, I'm testing out my homemade datura tincture.

Don't be surprised if I get a little silly 😅
