#härg is said to be a ‘Baltic’ loan word, with modern-day #Lithuanian and #Latvian being #žirgas and #zirgs respectively, and former #Prussian #sirgis. Drop the initial letter and the result is irg-, close enough to erg and ärg, the adding an ‘h’ to which is an #Estonian evidence. Interestingly,

The whole matter of the accentology in Balto-Slavic is maddening. The word for horse in Lithuanian, žirgas, is listed as type-3 (mobile acute) in Wiktionary but the first syllable is never acute. Why then is it called type-3? I can’t make sense of it all. What does broken tone in Latvian indicate?
