#(de)globalization
Unlike traditional tariffs, an oligarch tax targets those who benefit the most from globalization: billionaires and the corporations they control

It would impose high costs on the de facto current US administration

Another key difference b/w now and the 90s is the huge macro tailwind of rapid globalization was helping bring inflation down, it wasn’t just the internet. We now face the inflationary headwind of de/reglobalization & the supply chain frictions that come with it
Everyone thinking about the Fed and the AI boom is reaching for the same decade—the 1990s. The question is which year: 1996 or 1999.

Patience vs pivot. That's the first big question being handed to the Warsh Fed www.wsj.com/economy/cent...
Warsh’s First Test as Fed Chairman: Reading the AI Boom
Will the build-out cool or stoke price pressures? The 1990s offer two different answers.

We are talking about the complete de-globalization of American industry, cutting them off from the wealthiest consumers on the planet.

The skies will go silent. European aviation authorities will almost certainly ground all Boeing jets and ban U.S. airlines from their airspace.

Trump is going to achieve the weirdest possible outcome - de-globalization and a rise of protectionist states.
🔥80% of Canada's NATO spending directly benefits the United States!! Mark Carney says he will not promise to continue sending taxpayers dollars to the country that is currently threatening us!!🔥

"We need to spend more of that money here in 🇨🇦 Canada.." 💯 #Carney4PM 💯

Trump sells his followers a vision of glorious de-globalization, but what he's causing is de-Americanization.

I dive in with a big picture look at how Trump is changing the world to America's disadvantage and China's opportunity, touching on Vietnam, China, Canada, Europe, tariffs, TPP, and more.
Opinion | How Trump threw away America's global trade leadership
International economic integration will continue, with or without the U.S. — and China will benefit most.

Le Japon et le français! 🇯🇵

While politicians may be turning against trade, 2024’s record-high data shows that American businesses and consumers haven’t.
‘De-Globalization’ Still Isn't Happening (At Least Not Yet)
Buried in yesterday’s Census Bureau release of the latest US international trade data for full-year 2024 was a nice reminder that, for all the talk of tariffs and “de-globalization,” American…

Globalization and the mainstreaming of Wall Street go hand in hand. If you deglobalize, aren’t you also de-mainstreaming Wall Street?

I’m old enough to remember when normal people didn’t put anything in Wall Street because that was what rich people did.

My read on that is that it's an educated guess that the Digital ID paradigm will take hold after whatever comes next.

Microsoft and Google are ostensibly hedging to be the infrastructure for apartheid de-globalization.
This is why Berkshire made their move recently to reposition out of Apple and into Google. I’m thinking we’re in post-Buffett doctrine. I suspect the regime is now to buy the layers the economy cannot operate without, not wonderful businesses at fair prices.

- much tighter fiscal policy than in the US
- de-globalization since 2016, exports to china now decoupled from Chinese GDP growth
- too little market dynamism and few successful texh startups in Germany
- too much and growing regulation
- demographics starting to bite
