King Kong, composed by Max Steiner. Considered the oldest existing Original horror film score by several sources. The few original silent horror film scores were lost and the majority were hodgepodges of classical music.

The Thing (1982) comp. Ennio Morricone; sometimes it takes time. Nominated for a Razzie (an anti-Oscar worst-of-the-year), this is now considered one of the best synth horror scores. That simple electronic, bouncing 'heartbeat' is unforgettable

Dracula (1979); not John William's most famous score but not for lack of quality. Romantic, orchestral, with swirling strings and triumphal horns. And marches akin to Star Wars, Superman, & Raiders.
Dark & gothic, as befits the subject.

Nosferatu (1979), composed by Popol Vuh; different from other vampire scores, with sitar & tamboura. It's an authentic sound, as Dracula is as much East as he is West.
There may be a theremin (has a wavering glissando that sounds like a saw).
