I'd be seriously tempted to have a look at Elesar's new Ethernet interface to avoid crawling network speeds, although not by much.

100BaseT로 올라갈때 RT8139 쓰는 랜카드가 데이터오염 기열짓을 하던걸로 악명이 높았고 실제로 좀 당해봤었죠. 그때 랜카드 중고로 줏으러 다니다 인텔칩 달린거 엄청 싸게 잡아서 좋아라하고 그러던 기억이 나는군요. 요즘은 인텔 랜카드는 폐급취급받지만요.

Noticed my desktop to server file transfers were not instant. ifconfig showed the ethernet was running at 100baseT! I unplugged it from the switch (Netgear GS108) for a minute, replugged it, and now it's 1000baseT as it should be. Weird.

At a time when only 100 Mb was commercially available, this thing could record and store one connection 100 Mb full-duplex for a few minutes. You could also set up capture filters. The analysis was done afterwards with a laptop via the parallel port.
A successor for 1 Gb FD was too expensive for us.

Now, RJ45 connectors on 100baseT? Oh yeah, I was once told to stop helping with setup because so many of my crimps would fail testing.
