CLEAR: 100 #13B Romance / 恋しちゃったんだ編 Playtime: ~6h (197h), 10/08-10/09 Rating: 8/10 Of all the "story's canceled, we're doing something completely different" routes, this is far and away the best. The setup is obviously dumb as rocks, but the laser focus on small, interpersonal moments between characters that never had that opportunity on the main route(s) is genuinely nice. Funny, sweet, and earnest, with tons of great banter and character moments and without feeling like it diverges too much from established personalities. On a mechanical level, Koizumi's probably the strongest non-Kodaka writer on the roster, which makes it even more of a shame that this is the only (substantial) route he was involved in. (I imagine he was probably too busy with Danganronpa 2x2's alternate scenario to stick around for long.) The script's just got this really nice rhythm to it—few wasted words or needless repetition, never over-explanatory or feels like it doesn't trust you to read between the lines. It goes down super smooth all around. With how many dud routes there are, I'm glad I was able to end the game on a good note! Overall Playtime: 196 hours 50 minutes, 09/03-10/09 Rating: ∞/0 I'm not sure it's possible to review a game like this as an single work and be coherent about it. There's so many disparate pieces, so many different voices, such a wide range of ideas, styles, writing quality, and even production values from route to route. Hundred Line itself is not a cohesive whole, but a collage. A collection of dioramas, built from the same pieces but each arranged in their own way, painted in their own colors. And that's super cool. It's a fantastic idea! The problem that sort of undermines the whole conceit is that... most of those dioramas are also kinda junk—poorly constructed and not worth looking at at all. Off the main path, there are only four routes (of twenty) I feel successfully justify their existence—Box of Calamity, Cult of Takumi, V'ehxness, and Retsnom—and only one of them don't credit Kodaka for writing. (Romance is good on its own merits but is so far detached from everything that it ultimately doesn't make the cut.) It's so incredibly lopsided that I can't help but wish they went for a more focused experience instead. When it's good, it's *incredible*, and when it's bad, it's a soul-crushing slog. #08 Casual / まったり編 Playtime: ~2h (175h), 09/28-09/30 Rating: 5/10 I respect the honesty in warning up front that there's going to be no substance here. And tbh I don't even mind lighthearted slice-of-life antics, I just wish the antics themselves weren't all lowbrow light novel bullshit. It's like watching early Classroom of the Elite arcs lol. #13A S.F. (Intro.) Playtime: ~6h (181h), 10/01-10/05 From the initial branch (don't tell the crew about your time loop) up to the story lock. I'm not sure if Uchikoshi was just more motivated for this than Mystery or the reduced pressure of knowing nothing matters anymore makes it easier to go down, but I had a lot of fun with this setup. He's still piloting a completely different cast from any of the other writers, and I don't like how quick he is to turn every single scene into a joke, even when it's extremely inappropriate. But this side doesn't feel as blatantly half-assed (he still does the "all 15 people in the room say !! one after another" bullshit though). Funny though that it turns out my initial impression of Slasher (that it was a rejected Uchikoshi idea) was very much in the correct ballpark lol. #15B Mystery / 推理編 (Cont.) Playtime: ~45m (182h), 10/06 Rating: 2.5/10 Bro you really made them add an entire story lock system to the game for THAT? Seriously?? #13A S.F. (Cont.) Playtime: ~9h (191h), 10/06-10/07 Rating: 4.5/10 At the end of the day, the Mystery/SF duology is a decent *idea* for a story that's, frankly, not very well constructed and does not even remotely belong in this game. All the cross-route foreshadowing and seed-planting would work better in isolation and with its own set of characters. As it is, so many of the pieces we pick up on this route are the result of characters being forced to act in the name of the story rather than in line with their established personalities. It's genuinely incredible how forced it all feels—Takumi getting bored ten minutes into a cross-timeline stakeout and going to play in the rain, causing them to miss their window to catch the killer is... mindbogglingly stupid and out-of-character. (And just because he says it's dumb in the text doesn't make it any less so.) On top of that, it relies on too many weird developments that don't make sense in the context of the rest of the game or outright contradict it—the upgraded mind control machine, the explanation of the emergency escape device claiming they never intended the freak crew to meet up with the main crew when every other route says otherwise, the brain parasite antivirus program (and it fixing Eito). The escape sequence turning out to be a trap is a massive wet fart, narratively speaking, and the final couple weeks are especially egregious as it throws a whole bunch more never-before-seen elements into the mix out of fucking nowhere in a halfhearted attempt to squeeze a conclusion out of the whole mess. The tangled web of characters fucking around in other timelines and multi-rail drifting bullshit would probably be fun as their own separate game (if a bit standard-fare Uchikoshi), free of the baggage that comes with the story everyone else is telling. It just *doesn't work* here. It requires way too many compromises to the story as established to be able to function. Square peg, round hole.

#02 Goodbye Eito / さよなら蒼月編 Playtime: ~30m (166h), 09/25 Rating: 5/10 Bro saved some kids. He's still a bitch. #03 Rebellion / 独裁政権編 Playtime: ~2h (168h), 09/25-09/26 Rating: 2/10 About what you'd expect of the two worst writers on the roster. It's not a bad idea on paper but it's fucking miserable to read. All the same technical problems as Killing Game, but feels worse because most of the character drama has already been laid out by the common route. So instead of being stupid on mostly its own terms, it's taking something with a super strong foundation and dumbing it down until there's nothing left. Only saving grace is that it's not 50 hours long. #04 Eva / イヴァー編 Playtime: ~2h (170h), 09/27 Rating: 5.5/10 Extra pissed about the Rebellion route now that I know this one hits a lot of the same beats, except better lol. Like all the late-branching routes, it's a bit barebones and undercooked, with an anticlimactic ending. And once again I find the randomly blossoming romance complete deadweight, but it's not *painful* to read at least. Also kinda makes it extra silly how Eva never got more than her combat outfit design. #06 Serial Battles / 連続防衛編 Playtime: ~3h (173h), 09/27-09/28 Rating: 1.5/10 Fuck you forever for making me sit through all these unskippable pre-battle animations. It was funny the first couple times but how dare you drag it out for fifty days.

THE END #00 Hundred Line 2 / 真相解明編 Playtime: ~11h+α (165h), 09/14-09/24 Rating: 9.7/10 Not sure whether to call this the common route or what (the achievements give it the clunky "Last Defense Academy 2nd Scenario" label), but it's the core path off which all other routes branch, and it's legitimately comical how much stronger it is than anything that it spawns. Every single element that's reused elsewhere (and a lot of it is taken wholesale, whether for lack of effort or creativity or what) is diluted and less impactful than it is here. Scenes and dialogue copy-pasted haphazardly into stories they were never meant for, exchanges that felt wrong or awkward elsewhere slot perfectly into place. It's criminal, in retrospect, how much of this route you're forced to see in a different, inferior shape before encountering it as it was meant to be. Yet despite 80% of the wild twists and turns being cannibalized by half-baked guest writers with barely formed ideas, it still manages to be an absolutely *incredible* ride. After the double whammy disappointment of Conspiracy and Multiple Eitos, I opted to avoid branching as much as possible to get the most out of what was clearly the "true" route, and I believe that was the right decision. I'll go back and collect the other routes later, but at no point during this did I feel like I had anything to gain by veering off course again. There's just so much more texture to the characters, so much more emotion packed into every single exchange. The thematic throughline of the weight of Takumi's choices is established and explored with so much more nuance and depth than on routes dedicated entirely to that concept. #00 Hundred Line 2 / 真相解明編 (cont.) I was downright offended when the game offered to let me skip the Nozomi solo defense operation, perhaps the only time *ever* a battle sequence had worked in harmony with the storytelling, and in fact felt essential to the experience. Maybe I *had* seen something similar on another route, but I had most certainly not *felt* it before. The conclusion is downright harrowing—deeply, agonizingly miserable even by Kodaka's standards. Shit's somehow fucked even worse than the first time around, but we've made our choices and we're living (or not) with the consequences. It really is a no winners kind of situation, where the people responsible for making the mess are either dead or out of reach, and only incidentally take responsibility when the entire fucking population is vaporized. There is no happy end, and trying to force one probably would have cheapened the whole thing. Perhaps the routes skipped to get here will change my mind, but I am at this moment convinced that most non-central routes are not only a waste of time but downright detrimental to the game, and to the story being told. I have plenty of issues with Kodaka's writing, yet absolutely no one on the writer list is capable of keeping pace with him, of operating on even a vaguely similar playing field. Most, it seems, didn't even try. Honestly, the one true misstep is also exactly the one we've come to expect of Kodaka—killing off the four girls with the strongest personalities (five if you count Nigou being personified with tits in the dating sim delusion) while useless shitstains like Gaku slide uselessly to the end. Even knowing he's bad at this, I'm still disappointed. #01 Reset / リスタート編 Playtime: ~20m (165h), 09/24 This really shouldn't count as a "route" so much as... an alternate end lol. It's just a slightly different kind of depressingly miserable than the true(?) end.

#05 Multiple Eitos / 蒼月たくさん編 Playtime: ~8h (154h), 09/22-09/23 Rating: 2/10 Common route parts are getting longer and longer as we approach the end(?)—another 3-4ish hours between finishing Conspiracy and landing on this. My question is, is Ogidou Akira functionally incapable of longform storytelling or what lol. At least this one is conceptually interesting and addresses one lingering thread from the first "kill Eito" branch, but bruh's three for three on routes that are effectively rough drafts. Again, not a bad idea on paper but the execution is painfully flat. There's no meat, just a limp skeleton of a story.

#07 Conspiracy / 選択編 Playtime: ~4h (146h), 09/22 Rating: 0/10 Most of the playtime logged here actually belongs to the common route leading up to the branch. It takes maybe an hour to see all eight endings on the route itself. Which is... a funny gimmick, but that's it? There's not even a punchline. It's just a bunch of bad ends and then it stops. Why does this exist, except to pad out the ending count.
