In the 1030s it was Jews. Today it's immigrants.

the Pope isn't a politician and has never taken any political stance in history

on a related note, don't look up what the Pope was up to in the 1030s and 1940s.

Frank Lloyd Wright in the 1030s championed a utopian plan he called Broadacres. Replacing cities with grids made of single-family houses surrounded by family farms (with daily life only possible via automobile), the plan inspired postwar subdivision design and contributed to modern urban sprawl.

Reminded of the line about how France in the 1030s was "bored" of the Republic, wanted to have "a fling" with dictatorship--didn't expect the wife/republic to find out and die. (Némirovsky, Suite française)

I fell in love with the reflected light and textures on the ancient boulangerie on the left in this image. #Castelnau-de-Guers

Yesterday, my son brought in a package for me, and stuck around while I opened it. It was a copy of THE COMPLETE BETTY BROWN, PhG., a collection of an obscure comic strip that ran in the 1030s-40s in DRUG TOPICS, a pharmacy-oriented magazine.

"Hey, cool!" he said.

My son is very tolerant.

Does the US administration know how to deal with any country, person or situation? More lies or not real statements than since Germany in the 1030s. Just sayin

Went looking for information on the very interesting works of Arnold of St Emmeram (c.1030s) and discovered that Veronika Lukas has just completed a major new edition for @monumenta.bsky.social: www.mgh.de/de/blog/post...

Book idea: four buddies on an early medieval road trip - Harald Hardrada, Edward the Exile, Casimir of Poland and Andrew of Hungary, all met in service of Yaroslav the Wise in 1030s.

I love it when inventors get it bang on first time. I've seen colanders from the 1030s identical to mine, so well done too to Mr. or Ms. Colander.
127 years ago today, the Black inventor John Lee Love was granted a U.S. patent for the portable pencil sharpener, a design that is still in use today.

Love, who lived in Fall River, MA, realized that traveling salesmen, writers, or carpenters like himself couldn’t sharpen a pencil while on the go.

This is more-or-less true! The specific "medieval law" I can think of is the Ecclesiastical Ordinances of King Cnut (c. 1030s), and he is pretty clearly being metaphorical. He says that bishops must preserve their spiritual flocks to protect them from "wodfreca werewulf".

Absolutely. Not using the exact same tactics, but in the spirit of hating a group of people, applying a modern form of cruelty, removing them from society without due process, as well as making them the enemy, echoes the 1030s & the rise of Hitler & fascism.

My grandfather always swore it was one of our ancestors that shot the arrow. I didn't believe him. Then we got our family tree back to the 1030s, and a direct ancestor was a knight in Caen in the 1050s, so, maybe?

1066 could not have happened as it did without the help of Matilda of Flanders, William the Conqueror's duchess. Matilda supplied the Mora -her husband's flagship- and acted as regent in Normandy, leaving William free to pursue his ambitions
