Democracy, of course, is not new. Athens in the 5th century BCE had a system of direct democracy for example. And while the US constitution *is* the oldest national constitution still in use today, it was predated by other systems like the Magna Carta of 1215 or the English Bill of Rights.

Racists claiming to be originalists point to the fact that "due process" was not part of the ratified Constitution of 1787 but came later with the 5th and 14th Amendments (1791, 1868). Want to be originalists? The concept of due process originated with Clause 39 of the Magna Carta (1215).

Bonus Points: Habeas corpus dates back to the Magna Carta of 1215 and is enshrined in the U.S. Constitution; it requires the government to either charge a person or let them go free.
