translator of the highest-rated game of all time

@yukinogatari.moe

second route fully cleared #100yuki

#14A Slasher
Playtime: ~18h
Rating: 5/10
This route's a lot like having depression: You forget to eat and try to sleep it off. The smallest inconvenience puts you out of commission for the rest of the day. You fail to make progress on any of your responsibilities. Untraceable monsters are killing your friends with power tools.

#14Aa Parasite
Protag infested with a brain parasite he caught on a different timeline feels like a rejected Uchikoshi idea, honesty. Conceptually it's interesting but falls victim to the 100-day structure. It just can't support itself for that long, so there ends up being a ton of time spent waiting for things to happen.
Writing-wise, the script is solid, if not stellar, and the characters are much closer aligned to what Kodaka put on the table in the main route. It goes down mostly smoothly, and if it suffers from repetition, it's a structural issue rather than a prose one.
Cut the whole thing in half, skim over the regular conflict (it doesn't matter at all), and significantly up the pacing and it could be a good time. But unfortunately, the slow-burn approach sputters out before it reaches the end. (I will say, though, while the "chase" sequences were jank as hell and should not exist, the final one where the parasite reverses your controls was neat.)

#14Ab Zombies
Better paced than #14Aa, but seems to be a different, significantly weaker writer.
Characterization is fucked again (Takemaru in particular is all over the place) and shit like adding an alarm to the scanner for no reason other than to attract the zombies just reads as very poor plotting ability.
The weird mental gymnastics it (and to a degree #14Aa) does to disable the resurrection machine for everyone but Takumi is also awkward--he can lose his entire head twice and come back, but they find Ginzaki still alive enough to talk and aren't able to revive him. It's so broken that if you take this route at its word the machine shouldn't be usable for anything ever lol.
Bad.
