#18bit
One of my Favourite DMA game images of all time.

I printed this out back in the day on a dye sublimation printer printer I had, in full 18bit colour.

It was stunning.

sometimes I think about how the PDP-1 had an 18bit word. or how the Gemini guidance computer had a 39bit word. what the fuck was going on there. everyone in the 60s was a pervert.

Displaying junk is better than displaying nothing 😁

This 720x720 panel is setup to accept a 18bit RGB signal, but as the driver IC is used across different panels it required a fair amount of configuration over SPI before it accepts a video input.

Okay - I'm so confused here. Like - prudishness aside. You don't HAVE to look at Juniper. If her sprite is that bothersome you can just...not talk to her? Unless her little 18bit sprite is also bothering them.

Working on a small "mobile advertising" disc. I wanted to finish it for #makeshitmonday when I realized I had made the big brother to one of @elcannibal.bsky.social 's creations.

Case is 80mm*17mm

ESP32s3 and 480x480 18bit touch display

Video is at 20fps. All media is on an SD card.

My ePuck for #DEFCON

It now uses gestures for swiping between views and flipping through content. If I leave it on a view, it automatically goes into carousel mode.

Like actually design and build one from scratch!
I do have an ARM Cortex M7 based project in mind - it’s designed as a PSP/DS era device, with similar features/graphics/resources
(18bit color, 10bit stereo sound, 16MB RAM, 320x240 touch screen)

Omg I wanna just hug it. Its adorable. Has a 18bit charm.

I got it for about £400 in the early 90s. So expensive, but cheap as hell for a full 18bit colour printer.

The ink came as "sheets" of ink, so the "best" use of it was to print solid black! I loved being able to print space scenes without worrying about wasting ink. NOT doing it - wasted ink!!

Yes, 128MB of SDRAM memory is active along with all analogue video output at the same time. The Analogue video output RGB/Component/VGA is now 24bit (can drop down to 18bit if required).

If I go on AliExpress for small e-ink displays, a 2 colour, 2 inch panel is between £10 and £30 for a single unit, shipped.

A 2 inch 18bit colour LCD screen is between £2 & £5 shipped, each.

E-Ink is much better for battery life, and to use in daylight, but was never "cheap" outside of the Kindle

Finally ordered a Teensy 4.1, 8MB of PSRAM and a 320x240 IPS 18bit screen ✨
DIY fantasy console modeled after the DS/PS era, here I come 🥰

I wrote a software 3D renderer for it ages ago, it’s been waiting for this exact occasion!

I did something very similar last month. RP2350 with 480x480 LCD. The interface between them is 18bit RGB and HSYNC+VSYNC. Is yours the same?

Took me some time, but I was able to fit everything into one PIO.

A project I planned to finish for the past few years.
I made a +- 30A (50A peak) hal sensor + 18bit adc meas. PCB to track some solar panels output. Been wanting to turn it into a small standalone meter for a while. Finally done it.
Found an old metal case (I bought for 5 gulden) to build it into.

Interesting fact about the display in the original iBook - Apple had a setting for "millions of colours", but when I was reverse-engineering the original main-board it turned out that it only has 18bit colour (the GPU *could* do 24bit, but the display doesn't support it) so only 262K colours 😁

So turns out VGA is limited to 18bit 6bits for r,g & b

I’m still going to keep the palette buffer at 8bit at a minimum.

I bought a midiverb 4 a few weeks ago but the backlight was dead so returned it. A very good machine for the price. I went for the 18bit version because I knew the more modern DSP would lack the character I look for in old fx units

got an Alesis midiverb 4 with 18bit effects myself...

If you want to adjust automatically in a manner that imitates early video console, you can use a 12 bit pallet chosen from 18bit 6R, 6G, 6B values.

Long shot: any chaps/chapesses know how to make a colour gradient at 18 bit depth in a png?

I don't have any software which will tell it to be 18bit as far as I can see.
