Distant Supernova 1997ce
Image date: 8 January 1998, 06:00

These supernovae belong to a class called Type Ia, which are considered reliable distance indicators. Looking at great distances also means looking back in time because of the finite velocity of light.

Promotional photo of Janet Jackson, “The Velvet Rope” album and tour (Kink In Pop Culture- music, promotional materials, performances, 1997-1999) Decade Unto Discipline week 1997 saw the start of a cycle of Janet Jackson incorporating BDSM and fetish elements into her work that culminated with her 2008 album, “Discipline.” This week will take a look at some of the mileposts of that journey That cycle began with photos by Ellen Von Unwerth for the singers 6th studio album, The Velvet Rope, and it’s promotion [The album’s] “internal artwork depicts Jackson’s piercings and tattoos, also displaying her hands tied in bondage and latex attire, exhibiting fetishism. The photo also shows Jackson pricking her body with an ice pick.” (Wikipedia) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Velvet_Rope Some of the photos were featured on the Album booklet pages Magazines promoting the album also used the photos. The BDSM element of the album would also be a talking point Then there is the actual content of the record [The album] “encompasses themes of sexuality, including BDSM, sexual orientation, and same-sex relationships. Due to its sexually explicit content, the album reinforced Jackson’s public image as a sex symbol and as one of the most erotic vocalists of the 1990s. Its incorporation of social issues regarding sexual orientation and combating homophobia...
