Another beautifully composed photo by AFPU cameraman Sgt Johnson.

Easy to place this rather battered Cromwell from A Sqn, 1st RTR, with the Elbbrücke as a backdrop!

Note the disruptive camouflage on the turret stowage box.

Still #TankTuesday. Chieftain Mk2 while being deployed and tested by C Sqn 1RTR in Aden 1966, during their Persian Gulf tour as theatre reserve.

Rear view of a Sherman Ic from 1st Royal Tanks, 7th Armoured Division, with a Cromwell fitted with the ‘Normandy Cowl’ parked in front.

One by Jimmy Mapham, perhaps better known for his iconic D-Day pics.

#OTD 3rd May 1945, with 2 Cromwell Mk VIs of C Sqn, 1st RTR on guard in Hamburg.
Note the disruptive camo on both tanks. The nearest tank was a veteran of the entire campaign having been issued before D-Day.

1st April 1945 was D+300. It's about 750km from the Normandy coast to Rheine (which is where my old Regiment, 1RTR, were 80 years ago today). That's equivalent to an advance of 2.5km a day, every day, for 300 days. Which I would argue is pretty impressive in many ways.

Fantastic thread. The relegation date is not completely correct. Very few A9 and A10 continued to serve with 1RTR in Tobruk and participated in the breakout operation. A few also served as Brigade HQ tanks with 1 Army Tk Bde I think. rommelsriposte.com/2010/11/30/n...
