We are doing the #2FOR1PARKING campaign to restore the previous 2-cars-per-pass system at CSULB. Since August 2025, the school has used a 1-pass-or-1-car rule, taking away a helpful cost-saving policy for commuters.

The math doesn't lie; being a commuting CSULB student has increased in price.

Commuter Costs at CSULB Parking Permit Costs: A single parking pass allowed 2 cars at these prices. Since Aug 1st 2025, these prices are for a single pass for only for one car. $259 per Semester. $518 per Academic Year. Average Gas Costs: The prices of gas for commuters, assuming a 7-gallon tank, refueling every week at $5.80 per gallon, taking no increases into account. Overall, gas has gone up a lot recently and has increasing consistently for several years. Weekly: $40.60. Monthly: $176.42 (40.60 x 4.34523). Yearly: $2117.04 (176.42 x 12) Cost of Tution and Fees: This is the current price of tution. However, in September 2023, the CSU Board of Trustees decided to increase the cost of tuition 6% for 5 years. This went into effect in Fall 2024 for CSULB. $4171 per Semester. $8342 per Academic Years. Students are paying more for less. In many commuter situation, the 2-for-1 parking passes were a major help, especially as costs continued to increase. #2FOR1PARKING CSULB Journalism 104 Spring '26 Project
