Been musing on what a fantasy PBTA game that stays as close to Apocalypse World as possible might look like, and wrote out what casting spells might look like in it.

Not sure if anything will come of it, but it’s been a fun design challenge.
Cast a Spell When you utter the incantations and complete the rites to cast a spell, roll +Weird. On a hit, you cast the spell and achieve its effects. On a 10+, you also avoid paying its price. On a miss, pay its price, but you don’t cast the spell unless you can pay its price again. Slice (spell) Effect: You cut off the limb of a person at close range, dealing 2harm. Price: 1 finger Dimensional Warp (spell) Effect: You teleport to a location you’re familiar with by traveling through an alternate dimension. Price: A creature from that dimension is let loose at your starting or ending location (your choice). Explode (spell) Effect: You deal 2harm, area at a near location. Price: You deal 2harm to your closest ally within near range. If no such ally is near, you deal it to yourself. Sanctuary (spell) Effect: You designate an area large enough for camp to be a sanctuary. Negate any harm dealt to or by creatures from this area. You may also restrict creatures hostile to you from entering. This lasts until next sunrise. Price: The spell grants one creature amnesty. You can’t make a hostile action against them, and they can enter your sanctuary (if it exists). This lasts until sunrise or they make a hostile action against you. The spell doesn’t have to tell you what creature it chose for this effect. Compel Truth (spell) As part of casting this spell, you ask a question to a creature who can hear and understand you. Effect: The creature answers your question honestly and to the best of their ability. Price: You must answer a question the spell poses honestly and to the best of your ability. This answer is shared with all who are near you. Flaming Hands (spell) Effect: Your hands become ablaze and become a weapon that deals 3harm at close or near range. Until you dismiss this spell, anything you hold is consumed in flames. Price: The flames consume an item or spread to the environment (spell’s choice). Compel Companion (spell) Effect: A creature you choose that you can see becomes your ally. They can’t take hostile actions against you and must give reasonable aid if requested. This lasts until sunrise or you make a hostile action against them. Price: You are also affected by this spell as if the chosen creature cast it on you. Speak with Animals (spell) Effect: You can speak with animals as if you shared a language until the next sunrise. Price: This spell chooses one person. You and this person are unable to understand each other until the next sunrise.

We are in a political pandemic, an authoritarian virus. We need 2treat it as such.
A committee of Dems w/expertise in dif areas needs 2do a daily press conf informing the public of what Trump has done ea day 2harm us, &what a dem gov can do.
It’s powerful, supportive, reassuring, &supports hope.
