1 Tales ep every day in October. Moody piece, lots of lightning and thunder, but always one of the weaker season 1 eps for me (despite Amanda Plummer being awesome).
Another plus? I prefer the lady killer tropes over the black widows/gold diggers.

'Ringu' helped spur a new thread of more emotional/psychological horror and ghost story cinema. Definitely influenced by MR James, in particular 'Casting The Runes'.

Back in 1984, when what remained of the British film industry was all about frightfully worthy things like empire and athletics, 'The Company Of Wolves' was a most un-British British film. Dream state and properly surreal.
Title card for 'The Company of Wolves' Sarah Patterson as Rosaleen in 'The Company of Wolves'. A teenager with long brown hair, wearing a white smock under a red woollen shawl. Animatronic flayed wolf in 'The Company of Wolves'. A stork stands on a stone bridge silhouetted. A church spire stands to the left.

Very much of its time - everyone passes round cigarettes like a tray of biscuits and talks like Queen Elizabeth II - however it has the required heart of flint when it comes to the uncanny events that befall the characters.

This is one of my favourite ghost/horror films, its impact made greater by the utter contrast to Ealing Studio's usual output. 1/2

Mark Gatiss' adaptation of M R James' 'Count Magnus' suffers a little from the penury of BBC budgets, but it's still an effective telling.

#31DaysInOctober and last night I partook of another @nunkie.bsky.social production, 'A Warning To The Curious'. In my opinion, Robert Lloyd Parry's intense performance outshines the Lawrence Gordon Clark Ghost Story For Christmas adaptation.
