October 4, the lighthouse I was not sure what to expect from this movie but this rightfully is one of the most fucked up movies. I’ve watched in a long time. The share amount of creeping dread is unbelievable. The performances are outstanding. You can tell it is directed by the same guy who did the witch. 8.5/10.

October 15, hellbender. This one is an independent movie about an incredibly sheltered and isolated girl who discovers that she’s a witch. It’s sort of a coming-of-age story and a bit of a slow burn. But holy shit, that ending was everything. Just superb. 9.5/10.

October 5 village in the woods. This movie is a slowburn that suffers from poor writing could’ve been outstanding slow burn running was so clumsy. The characters weren’t really best believable aspect except for the village characters. This was my first DNF 1/10.

October 14: men. This was a very strange and unsettling movie to watch. The actual men in this movie are incredibly creepy. It was just odd and unsettling. It’s a very complex study of grief and guilt and abuse. A hard but, I think, necessary watch. 7.5/10.

October 22 Kuroneko this Japanese horror movie from the 1960s has some pretty cool otherworldly visuals. As a ghost story it is impeccable. It has such a poetic sense of justice which I really appreciate. 9/10.

October 20: daddy‘s head this was a really complicated movie, dealing with teams of brief and violence. There was a weird Cryptid like thing? It just wasn’t my cup of tea. I know it got great reviews elsewhere, but this one was not one for me. 4/10.

October 13, Gretel and Hansel OK look I have read this fairytale from Grims multiple times and multiple iterations. I’ve seen most movies that have to do with this particular fairytale. This is a lot darker than a lot of those other adaptations of the story. It’s beautiful to look at. It gives a real sense of for boating. 6.5/10.

October 12 jug face this movie is the essence of American Gothic horror meets folk horror. It is twisted and sad and bewildering. There are folk practices. It is a fascinating study. It’s a small movie but in a big way. 7.5/10.

October 24 lamb so this movie was like a modern folk tale but I wasn’t really 100% sure how I feel about it. It was beautiful, a great slow burn, but the ending was so odd. It felt like the beginning had a really compelling start, but the end was just underwhelming. Despite that really enjoyed it. 8/10.

October 28th ugly stepsister so let me preface this by saying that I am a sucker for any sort of adaptation of a grooms fairytale. That shit is my bread and butter. It was a little too gory for my liking. I’m not really big into body horror as a general rule. I like my dread creeping. But pretty decent movie. It is in Norwegian. 8.5/10.

October 1 haxan this Swedish/Danish film is the one that started the whole genre of folk horror. It was made in 1922. It is a silent movie and the cinematography is so so good. It is a long one. It’s almost 2 hours long, which felt like a lot for a silent film. It felt difficult to stay engaged for that long so I’m knocking one point off. 6.5/10.

October 25 Snow white: a tale of terror. I honestly forgot about this movie, it was originally supposed to be at theatrical release, but it was released on Showtime in the 90s. Sigourney Weaver was amazing. The location was great, the costumes were great, the pacing was a little odd, and it wasn’t as terrifying as it claimed to be. 6.5/10.

October 9, the witch another Robert Eggers joint this movie is such a slow burn, but it is so brilliant and it’s execution. It really does capture a time of fear and suspicion. It really doesn’t make you understand the Puritanical mindset. Honestly, I was rooting for the devil the whole time. Everybody loves black Philip. 9.5/10.

October 6, the wicker man what can I say about this movie that hasn’t already been said? It’s a quintessential in British folk horror. Christopher Lee is respondent. Edward Woodward is respondent. Diane Cilento is respondent. Always gonna be a tippy top of the mountain for me. I don’t think you could do better. 10/10.

October 11 antlers I did not enjoy this movie. I was certain that I would , it feels like it is right up my street. But I really didn’t. The story was just kind of meh. Visually, it is stunning. It is beautiful to look at. But it’s really heavy on allegory which I wasn’t keen on for whatever reason. 4/10.

Like the story doesn’t connect. The acting is in terrible, but it’s not fantastic. There’s no horror or a series of events? The review I’m giving is generous. 2/10.
