Started strongly, but only picked up one vote after the first few days.
And after #33Thirds, I probably expected this to finish higher.

And that 'Pale Shelter' made the final #33Thirds list.

I would love to see more, but I did the admin for #33Thirds in March, which had 200+ posts per day and it was... hard.
I took my laptop to Amsterdam for a weekend and was checking posts in the bagel shop/airport/pub... too much like real work!

No way that's the final if there are more Brits involved, but if you know you know :)
(I learned this in a big way when running #33Thirds, where people were choosing their favourite track threes)

Bit of history before we start Day 5 with a SHOCK.
Why is it a shock?
Before focusing on the "50 Songs" project, I ran other music challenges for just over two years.

...and they doubled their money if:
- as White they picked songs by white artists
- as Black they picked songs by non-white artists
All medallists were White.
And by a very long way.
It was crude, but it backed up what #33Thirds was already telling me.
The bottom line is...
And also the one where picks overlapped most with 1954-76. Usually challenges tend to focus on 1977-99.
So yes, I was concerned enough to introduce the JWC.
And #GameofPopLife?
Well, I used the rules to run an experiment. Players picking white or black would be "pop stars"...
Let's look finally at this time last year, when I ran #33Thirds and #GameofPopLife.
12 of the top 33 in #33Thirds would comply: 36% is a bare pass.
But even that took some chivvying to get e.g. Carole King and Dusty in.
Because overall it was THE most Wennerite challenge I ever ran.

...except RESIST.
Thankfully this has never been how I view or hear music, and so I've always looked for ways to focus on the alternatives (and I'm hardly a radical either).
Hence PPP, using 'This Is Uncool' (itself a reaction to homogeneity and canonisation) and #FearofMu21C.
Last bit on 'The Jann Wenner Clause: Why?'
The *really* exasperating thing about Music Twitter was/is the constant reinforcement of the white male canon in snap polls and random 'engagement bait'.
Spend too long there (especially in lockdown) and tbh it saps the will to do anything...
