You are fucking ridiculous. There are nice places in Oakland and terrible places in Berkeley. Do you live here? Do you know Berkeley and Oakland well? I'm so sick of people hating on Oakland because they watch IG videos or fall into propaganda traps.

I've been living in San Francisco for a week now and it's great and all, but I'm back in Oakland tonight and this place just nourishes my soul. Nowhere on earth quite like it.

Our elections being bought, again?
Despite the fact that Jenkins has no opponents, he's raised over 80K. Some of those donors coming in mid-year know that and still donated for some reason. Among them, 4 police associations that donated within 2 weeks of each other, one of them is OPOA, the rest non-Oakland.

Bike-life getting better & better...
Also same thing on Broadway near 27th Street.

Bonus that it looks like the 27th St protected bikeway from Harrison to Telegraph (plus protected intersections) is scheduled to break ground on August 10th.

Local Elections Matter, tha's all I'm sayin
If media covered D2 race, last Tuesday would've been a disaster for Wang. She failed to add her stamp to hi-public interest legislation by Fife, and was called out in real time for performativity. Later, her marquee legislation on sex trafficking was revealed to be inoperative
New Improved In the Details is a week-end legislative wrap up, combined with links to the week's focused reporting on larger city and legislative issues. Some other very important stuff happened aside from the Data Center Moratorium and only OO caught it

Before this story fades, here are the bodies they're burying...
Probably not something you'll read in other pubs, I live reported statements at last conference for Negotiated Settlement Agreement from stakeholders. Of note were those made by Burris and Warshaw as eyewitnesses to decades of OPD corruption and violence
The Oakland Observer (@Oak_Observer) on X
Burris: "When I did the Milton Black case back in 1979, I had a young kid, and I had to tell him to move from Oakland because I was concerned about his safety with OPD officers and he did and he n…

Butterfly in the pollinator garden! 🦋🌼

Just outside the Main Library Children's Room, we have raised garden beds where we plant things for our pollinator friends. Looks like it’s working!

Are your kids curious about pollinators and plants? 🌻🐝
Ask your librarian for book recommendations!

Oakland’s Chinatown has for more than a century been a center of culture, commerce, and political power. From its founding, through exclusion and displacement, Chinatown’s families and businesses have built a community that continues to shape the life of our City.
