A few weeks ago my friend told me about the 3com Audrey. An ebay seller sent me an offer for one in box (not quite complete) a little soon after. It came prehacked and with the ethernet cable adapter! Very nifty thing..

I grew up on Candlestick Road and when they changed the name of the Stick to 3Com, my brother taped a “3Com” over our street sign.

🌴✋ Palm. Just like BlackBerry, once synonymous with the personal digital assistant. First acquired by U.S. Robotics, then by 3Com, and later by HP, which ultimately retired the brand name in 2011.

when my dad first made a lot of money in the dot com boom he bought one of these for every room, and also shoes with literal metal springs in the heels, and an audrey 3com. he died penniless btw.
the dreams of 1993-97. in 98 they added a CD player to Wave Radios.

I interned at a local news station. I didn't particularly like the station manager, but I kind of admired his refusal to allow the newsroom to call Candlestick 3Com Park.
"They didn't pay ME for the name!" he reasoned.

I wired up our building and needed a router. The spec was a 3com unit that was pricey and took forever to get. I contacted NSA, got an early version of SELinux, paid $30 for a Compaq Pentium 75, tossed two NICs in it, installed SELinux and boom - router. Took DoD a year to get the 3com.

Despite the "3COM Baseline Switch 2816-SFP Plus" having SFP Plus IN THE NAME!!!!
It only has standard SFP gigabit speeds/ports...
The hunt for SFP+ switches either silent/quiet or fan mod-able continues! :(
