Bit late with posting but actual paintings were done on time! Little recap of July for #3x3thumbsup2025, my favourite annual challenge by @fruchtdrop.bsky.social - this is actually the 5th year I'm doing something for this challenge?!
For #3x3thumbsup A white square with 9 square little paintings, 3 in 3 rows. All painted naturalistic with black lined sketches and watercolours. From top left to lower right: 1: Close-up of a hawkmoth in a museum display. The moth has different shades of brown, the background is white. The moth is not fully within frame. 2: A street scene as seen slightly from above out of a window. A purple ice-cream van is parked in front of a bus stop. 3: A close up of a Japanese beetle on a wooden background, turned towards the camera. The beetle has a shiny green head and thorax, its abdomen is a light brown. 4: Part of a German small-town train station as seen from the top floor of a passing train. The platform shown is very grey and unremarkable with some shrubs and greenery in the background. 5: Two people in the fields. One is picking straws from a field of yellow wheat and definitely not cutting her hand by doing that. The other is standing in the path next to the field, watching her. There’s trees in various shades of green and purple in the background. 6: Frontal view of a pot-bellied pig at an enclosure. It has its snout on the ground, looking for food. 7: Top-down, very close view of a Valais Goat. It has a dark brown head with a big, very stylish hairdo and a little beard. 8: Close up of a dead may beetle lying between wooden chips with its little legs dangling in the air. 9: A freshly painted garden shed sits under the trees. Its metal roof is red, the sides are blue and the framing of the doors is white.

We do not talk about the hand.

A white square with 9 square little paintings, 3 in 3 rows. All painted naturalistic with black lined sketches and watercolours. From top left to lower right: 10: Close up of a piece of tree-bark fabric with an oceanic pattern in a museum display. The pattern consists of endless black, brown and white cubes that seem 3D. 11: A very washed out painted hand with green nails holding a lightcatcher: a golden chain with a moon and crystals in front of a wall. 12: A scribbled close up, part of a tomato plant in a brown pot. 13: A cat sitting on a stone fence post that should be to small for her, looking down into the greenery. The cat is very fluffy with spots of white and dark brown and light brown stripes. 14: A concert stage viewed from far-up in the stadium at Imagine Dragons Loom Tour in Hamburg Volksparkstadion. Left and right on the screens behind the stage a the singer is shown, lighted in pink. The centre screen shows the shadow of a shark in dark water. All people on and in front of the stage are very far away and small and only hinted at. 15: View out of an airplane window: The left wing of the plane is shown slightly from behind against a clear blue sky, a hazy bit of brownish land with coast and sea next to it. 16: Part of a very square hotel building with balconies lighted in orange, partly hidden behind palm trees. 17: A dark green tree overhanging a big rock amidst dried out grass. 18: A palm tree from below against a blue sky.

The decision to use this as a recap of July is proving to be a bit of a problem bc as it turns out there were several days where I didn't take any pictures at all... or just several of my birthday table. Oh well.

A white square with 9 square little paintings, 3 in 3 rows. All painted naturalistic with black lined sketches and watercolours. From top left to lower right: 19: Part of the “renovated” ruins at Knossos palace against a blue sky: A partly refurbished fresco of a red bull charging sits on the wall behind a row of red painted columns. 20: A modern gate that I thought was funny bc it reminded me of ancient architecture in a way: It has columns and decorations and a very rough arch made from modern building bricks. 21: Close up of the reconstructed “3 Ladies in Blue” fresco from Knossos at Heraklion Museum of Archaeology. It shows one of the hands raised in front of the body, part of the black hair and blue and yellow jacket. 22: A pathway leading along a fence. The fence protects Phourni archaeological site near Archanes on Crete. Behind the fence and to the right of the path is some greenery and larger hills in the distance in front of a blue sky. 23: Close up portrait of some sketchy dinosaur model I can’t identify. It was standing outside at Heraklion Museum of Natural History and had already taken some damage from the heat and sun and was also missing some teeth. The city is shown in the far background and again the sky is blue. 24: The sign of a bookshop in Heraklion: an open book, floating in front of an olive tree. Behind it are some other shops and suncovers, as well as a building with balconies. 25: A green watering can and a smaller yellow watering can stand on a wooden table, shown from above. In the upper left corner is part of the strawberry pot shown and in the upper right corner the lower part of the borage plant. 26: Part of birthday gift table: a picture frame, pink and yellow flowering plants, some cards and stickers and the book “Everything is Tuberculosis” by John Green. 27: Close-up of another part of the birthday gift table: a wooden coaster with a burned drawing of mushroom on it and a card with a drawing of a perfect dinosaur horse.
